Every Day Deserves at Least One Meaningful Moment

Welcome to the Salem Home Volunteer Program. We are grateful you are interested in joining our community. Volunteers play a meaningful role in everyday life, helping residents feel seen, valued, and cared for. Every act of service helps ensure that each resident experiences at least one special moment of connection every day.

Why Volunteers Matter
Volunteers make Salem Home feel like home. Through small moments of connection, kindness, and presence, volunteers create an environment where residents thrive emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Whether it’s spending time directly with residents or supporting staff so they can spend more time engaging, volunteers help make those special daily connections possible.

What Volunteering Is About
Volunteering is not about being perfect or having special skills. It is about showing up with care, respect, and a willingness to spend time with others. Every visit, conversation, and shared activity contributes to creating meaningful moments for residents and helps bring their days to life.

Volunteer Opportunities
We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds who are willing to serve in a way that honors Salem Home’s mission and respects who each resident is, was, and who they will be. There is a volunteer opportunity for every interest, talent, and comfort level:

Our Expectations of Volunteers
Volunteers at Salem Home are asked to show up with kindness, respect, and a willingness to connect.  We expect volunteers to follow the guidance of staff, respect resident privacy and individuality, and serve in a way that honors who each resident is, who they were, and who they continue to be.

Reliability matters, communication is important, and a caring presence goes a long way. Volunteers are not expected to have special skills—just a heart for people and a commitment to helping create meaningful moments each day.

Salem Home Volunteer Program

Resident Engagement Program

Resident Engagement Volunteers spend time one-on-one with residents supporting their hobbies, interests, independence and well-being.  Activities may include puzzling, playing Uno, or going on a duet bike ride. These moments help residents stay connected to the things they love and ensure each day includes a meaningful interaction.

Resident Care Program

Resident Care Volunteers provide hands-on support and companionship. They assist with meals, escort residents around the building, or simply spend time holding a resident’s hand. By providing care and attention, these volunteers help residents feel comfortable, valued, and connected.

Support Services Program

Support Services Volunteers help behind the scenes to keep Salem Home running smoothly. They may help fold laundry, organize libraries, or prepare craft supplies. These tasks support staff and residents alike, helping free up time for engagement and ensuring residents’ days are filled with meaningful activity.

Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Program

Therapeutic Recreation Volunteers assist with programs planned by our recreation team. They help with activities, sing-alongs, and special events. These volunteers help create joyful, interactive experiences that add to each resident’s daily connections and sense of belonging.

Community Program

Community Program Volunteers bring energy, creativity, and connection into Salem, helping to brighten the days of our residents. This can include musicians and entertainers visiting to perform, school classes coming to spend time with residents, or local fellowship groups meeting at Salem Home and inviting residents to join.  These visits and programs help create joy, spark conversation, and ensure residents have engaging and memorable interactions throughout their day.

Spiritual Care Support

Our Spiritual Care Volunteers support the spiritual well-being of the whole person, respecting each resident’s beliefs, values, and life experiences. This may include reading Scripture, praying with residents, or simply offering a calm and caring presence. These volunteers help create moments of peace, comfort, and meaningful connection.

Community Program Opportunities

Our Community Program Volunteers bring joy, entertainment, and a sense of community to our residents by offering engaging weekly programs and activities. Volunteers from our community share their talents, skills, and interests with our residents, providing a diverse range of enriching experiences. Whether it's leading art workshops, music performances, storytelling sessions, fitness classes, or other interactive programs, the presence of volunteers adds vibrancy and connection to our personal care home.

For our younger volunteers under the age of 18, such as school classes, youth groups, daycares, Sunday schools, and other youth organizations, we offer a special opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our seniors. These young volunteers bring a unique energy and enthusiasm that brightens the days of our residents. Through engaging in friendly conversations, assisting with recreational activities, and sharing their talents, these young volunteers create intergenerational connections that are truly heartwarming.

If you're looking to inspire empathy, compassion, and social skills in young individuals while fostering a sense of community and companionship among our residents, we welcome your group to join us in spreading joy and creating memorable moments at our personal care home.

To schedule a visit or learn more about how your group can get involved, please contact us. We can't wait to see the positive impact your group will have on our residents' lives!"
