Resident Engagement Opportunities - Meaningful Moments Companion (Intentional One-to-One Visiting)

Meaningful Moments Companions provide intentional one-to-one visits with residents, focusing on building deeper relationships through conversation, listening, and shared presence. These visits are centered on helping residents feel seen, heard, and valued.

This role is best suited for volunteers who are comfortable with meaningful conversation, emotional connection, and consistent visiting relationships.

What Volunteers Do

  • Visit regularly with one resident to build a consistent connection
  • Engage in meaningful conversation and attentive listening
  • Offer emotional support and companionship
  • Create a calm and comfortable visiting environment
  • Encourage residents to share stories, memories, and experiences
  • Notify staff of any concerns about residents
  • Record volunteer hours in the volunteer record book

Location
Resident rooms or quiet common areas within Salem Home.

Time Commitment

  • About 1 hour per visit
  • Scheduled with the Director of Community Engagement
  • 6 month commitment preferred

Requirements

  • Age 18 and older
  • Strong listening and conversation skills
  • Comfortable with deeper, one-to-one interaction
  • Patient, compassionate, and respectful
  • Willing to follow Salem Home policies

Training and Support
Orientation and ongoing support provided by the Director of Community Engagement and staff.
