Spiritual Care Support Opportunities - Church Pianist (Care Area)
Church Pianists provide live piano music during on-unit church services at Salem Home. Through music, volunteers help create a peaceful and meaningful worship experience, encouraging residents to sing, reflect, and feel connected.
This role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy sharing their musical gifts in a faith-based setting.
What Volunteers Do
- Play a short prelude before the service (music of your choice)
- Provide piano accompaniment for hymns and songs
- Play a brief postlude as residents leave
- Create a calm and welcoming atmosphere through music
- Notify staff if unable to attend a scheduled time
- Record volunteer hours in the volunteer record book
Location
Care area worship spaces within Salem Home, including:
- Cottonwood Dining Room
- Maple North Dining Room
- Maple South
- Evergreen Lounge
Time Commitment
- Services typically run 9:30am – 10:15am
- Days may include Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday
- Flexible scheduling
- 6 month commitment preferred
Requirements
- Age 15 and older
- Ability to play piano confidently
- Comfortable accompanying congregational singing
- Dependable and respectful
- Willing to follow Salem Home policies
Training and Support
Orientation and ongoing support provided by the Director of Community Engagement, Therapeutic Recreation staff, and Pastoral Care.
