Support Services Program Opportunities - Kitchen Prep Volunteer
Kitchen Prep Volunteers support the Dietary Services team at Salem Home by assisting with simple food preparation tasks. Volunteers help wash, peel, and cut ingredients that are used in daily meals, contributing to a kitchen that provides fresh, nourishing food for residents.
This behind-the-scenes role plays an important part in creating a home-like environment where meals are prepared with care and connection.
This role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy hands-on tasks and being part of a team.
What Volunteers Do
- Wash, peel, and cut vegetables and fruit
- Assist with preparing ingredients for meals and desserts
- Follow direction from kitchen staff
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace
- Use kitchen tools safely and appropriately
- Follow food safety and hygiene guidelines
- Notify staff of any concerns
- Record volunteer hours in the volunteer record book
Location
Oma’s Kitchen at Salem Home.
Time Commitment
- Flexible shifts (typically weekday mornings or afternoons)
- Approximately 1–2 hours per shift
- Ongoing or occasional participation
Requirements
- Age 16 and older
- Comfortable working with food and basic kitchen tools
- Willingness to follow instructions and safety guidelines
- Dependable and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Willing to follow Salem Home policies
Training and Support
Orientation and on-site training provided by Nutrition Services staff and the Director of Community Engagement.
