Resident Care Program Opportunities - Meal Time Companion

Mealtime Companions support residents during meals by offering conversation and assistance so that mealtimes remain enjoyable and dignified.

Volunteers help create a welcoming dining experience where residents feel supported and included.

What Volunteers Do

  • Sit with residents during meals

  • Assist residents with eating when trained to do so

  • Encourage independence and conversation

  • Observe and report concerns to staff

  • Record volunteer hours

Location
Resident dining areas at Salem Home.

Time Commitment

  • Breakfast: 8:15–9:45 AM

  • Lunch: 11:45 AM–1:15 PM

  • Dinner: 4:45–6:15 PM

  • 6 month commitment preferred

Requirements

  • Age 15 and older

  • Completion of Meal Assistance Training

  • Patient, attentive, and respectful

Training and Support
Meal Assistance Training and orientation provided.

Qualifications Required

  • Safety Checks - Reference Question Competed Must be Completed
  • Education and/or Training - Meal Companion Training Must be Feeding Training Completed
  • Education and/or Training - Feeding Training Must be In House Training
