Salem Home

Chapel Hosts support residents in attending and participating in chapel services led by community churches at Salem Home. Volunteers help create a welcoming and inclusive environment where residents can experience meaningful worship, connection, and a sense of community.

This role includes Thursday morning services (smaller, community-led) and Sunday services (larger group worship).

This role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy supporting others, offering a warm presence, and helping create meaningful spiritual experiences.

What Volunteers Do

• Escort residents to and from chapel services
• Greet residents and community church representatives with warmth
• Help residents get settled comfortably for the service
• Distribute hymn books and assist with finding pages
• Provide light support and supervision during the service
• Assist church representatives with simple needs if required
• Offer friendly conversation and encouragement
• Notify staff of any concerns about residents
• Record volunteer hours in the volunteer record book

Location

Chapel and designated worship spaces within Salem Home.

Service Times

Thursday Services (Community Church-Led)

• Smaller, more intimate services led by visiting churches
• Focus on connection between residents and community guests
• Typically 9:15am – 10:45am

Sunday Services (Congregational Worship)

• Larger group worship experience
• More structured service setting
• Typically 9:00am – 11:00am

Volunteers may choose to serve on Thursdays, Sundays, or both.

Requirements

• Age 15 and older
• Friendly, respectful, and dependable
• Comfortable interacting with older adults and community members
• Able to follow instructions and work as part of a team
• Willing to follow Salem Home policies and safety guidelines

Training and Support

Orientation and ongoing support provided by the Director of Community Engagement, Therapeutic Recreation staff, and Pastoral Care.
