Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Program Opportunities - T.R. Special Event
Special Events Volunteers support larger programs and celebrations at Salem Home, helping create joyful, engaging, and memorable experiences for residents. These events may include seasonal celebrations, themed programs, community gatherings, or special performances.
Volunteers play an important role in helping events run smoothly while ensuring residents feel included, supported, and part of the experience.
This role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy being part of lively events and creating positive group experiences.
What Volunteers Do
- Assist with setup and preparation for special events
- Welcome residents and help them get settled
- Encourage participation and engagement during the event
- Provide companionship and support to residents as needed
- Assist with serving refreshments or distributing materials
- Help with cleanup after the event
- Follow direction from Therapeutic Recreation staff
- Notify staff of any concerns about residents
- Record volunteer hours in the volunteer record book
Location
Common areas within Salem Home (Heritage Room, Chapel, lounges, or outdoor spaces).
Time Commitment
- Events typically 1–3 hours
- Scheduled in advance
- May include weekdays, evenings, or weekends
- Flexible commitment
Requirements
- Age 15 and older
- Friendly, energetic, and adaptable
- Comfortable in group and event settings
- Able to follow direction and work as part of a team
- Willing to follow Salem Home policies
Training and Support
Orientation and event-specific guidance provided by the Director of Community Engagement and Therapeutic Recreation staff.
