Support Services Program Opportunities - Library Organizer
Library Volunteers support Salem Home by organizing and maintaining small library spaces throughout the care areas. By keeping books accessible, inviting, and easy to navigate, volunteers help create opportunities for residents to enjoy reading, reminisce, and stay connected through stories.
This role is primarily independent and focuses on creating calm, welcoming spaces that support residents’ interests and abilities.
This role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy books, organization, and working quietly behind the scenes.
What Volunteers Do
- Organize books in care area libraries
- Sort books into simple categories (e.g. fiction, large print, spiritual)
- Rotate books to provide variety and fresh interest
- Remove books that are damaged or difficult to read
- Keep library spaces tidy and inviting
- Notify staff of any needs (e.g. more large print books)
- Follow infection control and safety guidelines
- Record volunteer hours in the volunteer record book
Location
Library shelves and reading areas throughout Salem Home.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 2–3 hours once per month
- Flexible weekday scheduling
Requirements
- Age 15 and older
- Enjoyment of books and reading
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Comfortable working independently
- Respectful of quiet and care-focused environments
- Willing to follow Salem Home policies
Training and Support
Orientation and guidance provided by the Director of Community Engagement and staff.
