Support Services Program Opportunities - Salt and Pepper Shakers Filler
Salt and Pepper Fillers assist Salem Home by helping maintain a clean, organized, and ready-to-use dining environment. Volunteers refill and clean salt and pepper shakers, ensuring tables are prepared for residents to enjoy a comfortable and home-like mealtime experience.
This behind-the-scenes role supports staff and contributes to the overall quality and comfort of daily dining.
This role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy routine, detail-oriented tasks and working independently.
What Volunteers Do
- Refill salt and pepper shakers outside of mealtimes
- Clean and check shakers to ensure they are ready for use
- Follow proper hygiene and food safety guidelines
- Use clean materials to prevent cross-contamination
- Notify staff of any supply needs or concerns
- Maintain confidentiality and respect resident spaces
- Record volunteer hours in the volunteer record book
Location
Dining areas and kitchen spaces at Salem Home.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 1–2 hours every two weeks
- Scheduled outside of mealtimes
- Flexible scheduling
Requirements
- Age 16 and older
- Detail-oriented and dependable
- Comfortable working independently
- Willing to follow food safety and infection control guidelines
- Respectful of resident privacy
Training and Support
Orientation and on-site guidance provided by Nutrition Services and the Director of Community Engagement.
