Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Program Opportunities - Entertainment Host (One to One Support)

Entertainment Companions support one or two residents during group programs at Salem Home. Volunteers sit alongside residents, offering quiet encouragement, conversation, and reassurance so they can comfortably participate and enjoy the experience.

This role is ideal for volunteers who prefer one-to-one connection in a group setting.

What Volunteers Do

  • Sit with one or two residents during programs
  • Offer gentle conversation and encouragement
  • Help residents follow along with the activity
  • Provide reassurance and support as needed
  • Notify staff of any concerns about residents
  • Record volunteer hours in the volunteer record book

Location
Chapel, Heritage Room, and other common areas within Salem Home.

Time Commitment

  • Programs typically run 2:30pm and 4:00pm and 6:00 pm - 7:30pm
  • Flexible scheduling
  • 6 month commitment preferred

Requirements

  • Age 15 and older
  • Calm, patient, and attentive
  • Comfortable engaging one-to-one with older adults
  • Willing to follow Salem Home policies

Training and Support
Orientation and support provided by the Director of Community Engagement and staff.
