Community Program Opportunities - Music Ministry Volunteer (Care Areas)
Music Ministry Volunteers share music with residents in small, relaxed settings throughout the care areas at Salem Home. This may include playing an instrument, singing, or simply listening to music together. These visits create meaningful moments of connection, comfort, and joy for residents.
This role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy music and want to use it to connect with others in a personal and meaningful way.
What Volunteers Do
- Visit residents in care areas to share music one-to-one or in small groups
- Play an instrument, sing, or listen to music with residents
- Encourage residents to participate by singing, tapping along, or reminiscing
- Create a calm, welcoming, and enjoyable atmosphere
- Adapt music choices to residents’ interests and preferences
- Notify staff of any concerns about residents
- Record volunteer hours in the volunteer record book
Location
Care areas, resident rooms, and common spaces within Salem Home.
Time Commitment
- About 1 hour per visit
- Flexible scheduling
- 6 month commitment preferred
Requirements
- Age 15 and older
- Comfortable singing or playing an instrument (any skill level welcome)
- Friendly, patient, and respectful
- Comfortable engaging with older adults
- Willing to follow Salem Home policies
Training and Support
Orientation and support provided by the Director of Community Engagement and Salem Home staff.
