Where are you interested in volunteering?

Park Beautification and Environmental Stewardship

I love outdoor spaces and I'm interested in volunteer opportunities to help take care of them.

Many of these activities are self-directed therefore after you have completed your orientation session you get to choose when and where you volunteer. Other opportunities in this area are planned and organized group events.

Some of our volunteer activities in this area include;

  • Litter pick up in our Adopt a Park, Adopt a Trail  & Adopt a Street programs
  • One Time Beautifications (weeding or plantings)
  • Invasive Plant species removal events
  • Cemetery Marker Maintenance events
  • Tree planting events
  • Corporate Volunteering, & Clean- ups.

5210 Playbox Program

I think encouraging children to play outside is important for their growth and development.

This activity is self-directed therefore after you have completed your orientation session you volunteer on your own schedule. Volunteers monitor, stock and maintain large metal jobsite boxes that have been placed in City of Abbotsford Parks. These Playboxes are filled with sport and play equipment that can be accessed by registering to receive the lock code.

This volunteer activity is our;

  • 5201 Playbox Program

Recreation Volunteering

I am interested in volunteering with children in RECREATION programs at ARC, MRC or other City of Abbotsford facilities.

 After you have completed your orientation and interview sessions, had your Criminal Records Review, and references approved, you may sign up for specific posted shift opportunities in this area to work with children aged 0-12 at ARC, MRC or other City of Abbotsford sites.

Some of our volunteer activities in this area include;

  • Arenas and Skating Lesson Support
  • Aquatics and Swimming Lesson Support

  • a variety of Art, Recreation & Sport Programs at our recreation centers.

Volunteering with Children with Diverse Abilities

 I am interested in volunteering with children with diverse abilities in programs at ARC and MRC.

This program is a volunteer program that seeks to provide 1:1 support to children with diverse abilities aged 3 to 12 years who may need assistance to participate in Abbotsford Parks, Recreation & Culture programs at ARC and MRC.

This volunteer activity is our;

  •  Recreation Buddy Program

Cultural and Special Events in Abbotsford

I love Special Events and helping behind the scenes to ensure events run smoothly.

Here in the City of Abbotsford we love to support events with a wide variety of volunteer options. Some of our City of Abbotsford events include Canada Day, Communities in Bloom, Involve and many smaller scale civic events. We also provide information about volunteer opportunities with many more community based events.

Some of our volunteer activities in this area include;

  • Volunteer Support at City and community Special Events of all sizes
  • Go Green Team
  • Pedestrian Traffic Control.

Environmental Education in Stormwater practices

I care about fish and our oceans and I'm interested in volunteer opportunities to help educate people on how we can take care of them.

This activity is self-directed therefore after you have completed your orientation session you may choose when and where you volunteer. Volunteers are equipped with supplies to paint yellow fish near storm drains to remind residents that what goes into their drain matters.

This volunteer activity is our;

  • Stormdrain Trooper program

Environmental Education in Waste Reduction practices

I care about reducing our carbon foot print and I'm interested in volunteer opportunities for environmental public education.

This activity monitors specially designed garbage, compost and recycling bins through public education at special events.

This volunteer activity is our;

  • Go Green Team program

Community Clean up Week

I love beautifying our community and want to volunteer to pick up litter.

Register to join us and participate in our annual Community Clean-Up Week! This activity is self-directed therefore after you have completed your orientation session you get to choose when and where you volunteer. Community Clean-Up Week is a national campaign that encourages residents to volunteer to pick up litter in their communities which contributes to increased environmental stewardship and helps beautify neighbourhoods.
