Volunteer Programs - 2. B - Recreation - Aquatics

Are you an aspiring lifeguard who needs some volunteer experience?

Our Aquatics team enjoys working with volunteers as it decreases our student to leader ratio within the pools . Plus our Aquatic leadership team often considers volunteer hour contributions when hiring new lifeguard staff. Come have some fun as you provide the instructors with assistance as they lead swimming lessons.

Note; your signup here is an expression of interest; you will confirm your participation in this program and chose your shifts once your training is complete. 

Description of Responsibilities:
• Assist the instructor as needed.
• Distribute aquatic equipment to participants.

Skills and Qualities Required:
• Ability to take direction from staff.

• Ability to work with children.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum Age: 14; unless you’ve completed the Recreation Leadership course offered at Abbotsford Recreation Centre. 
  • Submit photocopies of your Aquatics awards
  • Submit a Criminal Record Review Form
      • Please see the CRC form which you will need to complete and bring to our meeting as mentioned below.  I will need to see 2 pieces of ID (1 primary – Passport or birth certificate and 1 secondary – Student ID or Care Card).  Once I’ve checked your ID, then I submit the form on your behalf. Please note that this process currently takes the Provincial Government 4-6 weeks to process.
  • Submit 2 References
      • Please see the Recreation reference form which your references can complete
  • Submit your Volunteer Agreement.
      • Please note if you are under the age of 18 years old you will also need this form signed by a parent or guardian.
  • Attend an Orientation Meeting. Register for a scheduled Orientation meeting which you will find under your volunteer profile opportunities tab.  This meeting will provide you with the ability to meet the volunteer coordinator and submit your documents.  You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the volunteer role.  Program specific/event training will occur at the recreation centre.

 

Certificates Required:

Bronze Medallion.

• WSI prep

• Abbotsford Recreation Centre or Matsqui Recreation Centre.

Additional Information:
Individuals can record volunteer hours under "Hours Log" in their myvolunteerpage.com account. Staff will approve the hours you’ve logged.

All Volunteers for this program must be Level 2 approved. Level 2 volunteers are those that have successfully completed their orientation interview, a Criminal Record Check and two references.
