Volunteer Job Responsibilities at the FCA
Concession - CUP Distributor
Volunteers will be asked to distribute sippy cups to patrons who have just purchased a beverage in the event they would like to continue drinking inside of the theater. Volunteers are expected to hand cups to patrons not pour their beverages.
Typical tasks:
- Provide great customer service
- Work in a fast-paced learning and working environment
Requirements:
- Must wear gloves to distribute cups
- Must be able to stand at your post for the duration of the event
- Must be able to share event details (length of performance, intermission, etc.)
- Must have excellent knowledge of the assigned performance venue.
- Venue Seating Configuration
- Lobby – restroom, coat check, will call, elevators and concessions
- Must be able to learn and retain concession information quickly and apply knowledge while working
Must have basic mathematic and receipt recordings skills
Concessions
Concession Sales
Volunteers will be asked to sell concessions based on interest and comfort level with cash handling and/or credit card sales. There will be on-site training provided to familiarize you with the merchandise and cash-handling procedures.
Basic alcohol selling tips:
- Patrons are allowed to buy one drink at a time. If the patron is requesting to buy multiple drinks for their partner or friend, attempt to get a visual on the person.
- If a patron looks like they are less than 30 in age, it is our responsibility to request their ID. The patron should be born on or before the event date. The patron’s birth year should be 2002 or earlier.
- Do not sell alcohol to a patron who could be already inebriated. If you are unsure of a patron’s current state, feel free to get a House Manager.
- Beverages can be brought into the hall with the use of the Arts for All sippy cups.

Usher - General
Usher
Ushers are on duty from the time the doors open until the show ends and all patrons are safely out of the theater. The primary function of this position is to assist our patrons to find their seats within the hall before and during the performance. This job requires standing and walking, both on flat floor and up and down stairs. In the event of an emergency, it requires the ability to move quickly yet calmly throughout the venue to guide people out of the theater or assist anyone who is injured. During the performance, ushers must continue to be alert for anything or anyone who might need their attention within the hall.
Typical tasks:
- Escort patrons to their assigned seats
- Be alert and available for late seating when patrons arrive after the show has begun
- This will be done with a flashlight provided by your house management staff
- Be alert for a disturbance in the theater (i.e., loud talking, cell phone use or inappropriate camera use) and politely handle with the matter appropriately
- Seating issues that are not easily resolved should be immediately reported to an Area Manager
- During intermission and after the show, stand at your post to assist patrons with anything they might need or answer any questions they might have
- Check for and remove any garbage and programs left behind in the theater after the shows
- Provide good customer service and be sympathetic to patrons’ concerns
- Direct patrons to the restroom, elevator and water fountains
Requirements
- Must have sufficient vision to read and understand Ferguson Center Tickets to direct patrons to their assigned seating locations
- I.e., Tier of seat location (based on performance venue) and difference between house left and right. Each ticket has their section, row and seat printed on it
- Must be able to share event details (length of performance, intermission, etc.)

- Must be able to navigate stairs and slight inclines
- Must be comfortable with heights often in dim lighting
- Must be able to lead patrons down stairs and out of the building during an emergency evacuation
Merchandise Sales
Merchandise Sales
Volunteers may be asked to sell tour merchandise. If this happens, there will be training provided to familiarize you with the merchandise and cash-handling procedures.

Golf Cart Driver
Golf Cart Driver
Our golf cart drivers are responsible for shuttling patrons from the parking garage to the Diamonstein Concert Hall and back.
Typical tasks:
- Provides good customer service
- Be alert and mindful of the surroundings while shuttling patrons
Requirements:
- Must complete a required, annual training at CNU and pass a driving test
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Obey all roadway signage
- Ensure all patrons have been seated properly in a seat or have stepped away from the vehicle prior to putting the vehicle in drive
- Must be able to share event details (length of performance, intermission, etc.)
- Report any accident to the Patron Services Manager or House Manager on duty

Floater/Escort
Floater/Escort
This position requires a person to walk throughout the lobby to answer questions about general locations, details, policies and seating. Floaters are required to be knowledgeable about the facility and answer questions with confidence to assist the patrons.
Typical tasks:
- Provide good customer service
- Direct patrons towards the elevator, restrooms, Will Call, Ticket Office, and coat check (etc.)
- Escorting patrons to Will Call or the Ticket Office from one entrance to another

Elevator Operator
Elevator Operator
The Elevator Operator assists patrons by taking them up and down various floors in the hall.
Typical tasks:
- Operating an elevator
- Answering questions about the Ferguson Center, the facility and the event
- Assisting patrons from one floor to the next
Requirements:
- Must have sufficient vision to read and understand Ferguson Center Tickets to direct patrons to which door to enter through to the theater
- i.e., Note the date on the ticket, name of the show, tier of seat location (orchestra, grand tier, dress circle) and difference between house left and right. Each ticket has their section, row and seat printed on it
- Must be able to share event details (length of performance, intermission, etc.)
- Must have excellent knowledge of assigned performance venue

Theater Door/Program Attendant
Theater Door/Program Attendant
The Theater Door/Program Attendant is responsible for greeting patrons and passing out programs prior to them entering the theater. The Attendant is also responsible for reviewing patrons’ tickets to make sure the patron is entering the correct door of the hall. If a Program Attendant is running low on programs, it is their responsibility to request additional quantities from their Area Manager.
Typical tasks:
- Be able to read tickets. In particular, to pay close attention to the door assignment and seating section
- Deliver a friendly greeting to our patrons
- Pass out programs as determined in the pre-event meeting
- Assemble inserts in programs as directed

Ticket Scanner
Ticket Scanner:
Ticket Scanners assist patrons as they are entering the lobby of the venue using an electronic device to scan tickets.
Typical tasks:
- Be able to read tickets. In particular, to pay close attention to the date and time listed on the tickets and name of show
- Direct patrons to various locations throughout the venue

- Must have basic knowledge of smart phone applications and technology
- Must be able to share event details (length of performance, intermission, etc.)
- Must have excellent knowledge of assigned performance venue

Door Greeter
Door Greeter
Our door greeters are often the first point of contact that our patrons have with the Ferguson Center and should be friendly while opening the doors for our patrons welcoming them into the venue.
Typical tasks:
- Opening doors for patrons as they enter and exit the building before a show, during
intermission and after
- Deliver a friendly greeting to our patrons
- Answer general questions about the Ferguson Center and our events
- Assisting patrons who request wheelchairs or other special accommodations
- Directing patrons to various locations in the building, i.e.: will call, restroom, elevator, etc.
Requirements:
- Must be able to stand and repeatedly open a heavy door over the course of the event
- Must be able to share event details (length of performance, intermission, etc.)
- Must have excellent knowledge of assigned performance venue.
