Usher

Ushers are on duty from the time the doors open until the show ends and all patrons are safely out of the theater. The primary function of this position is to assist our patrons to find their seats within the hall before and during the performance. This job requires standing and walking, both on flat floor and up and down stairs. In the event of an emergency, it requires the ability to move quickly yet calmly throughout the venue to guide people out of the theater or assist anyone who is injured. During the performance, ushers must continue to be alert for anything or anyone who might need their attention within the hall.

 

Typical tasks:

  • Escort patrons to their assigned seats
  • Be alert and available for late seating when patrons arrive after the show has begun
    • This will be done with a flashlight provided by your house management staff
  • Be alert for a disturbance in the theater (i.e., loud talking, cell phone use or inappropriate camera use) and politely handle with the matter appropriately
  • Seating issues that are not easily resolved should be immediately reported to an Area Manager
  • During intermission and after the show, stand at your post to assist patrons with anything they might need or answer any questions they might have
  • Check for and remove any garbage and programs left behind in the theater after the shows
  • Provide good customer service and be sympathetic to patrons’ concerns
  • Direct patrons to the restroom, elevator and water fountains

 

Requirements

  • Must have sufficient vision to read and understand Ferguson Center Tickets to direct patrons to their assigned seating locations
    • I.e., Tier of seat location (based on performance venue) and difference between house left and right.  Each ticket has their section, row and seat printed on it
  • Must be able to share event details (length of performance, intermission, etc.)
  • Must have excellent knowledge of assigned performance venue.
    • Venue Seating Configuration
    • Lobby – restroom, coat check, will call, elevators and concessions
  • Must be able to stand for the duration of the event  
  • Must be able to navigate stairs and slight inclines
  • Must be comfortable with heights often in dim lighting
  • Must be able to lead patrons down stairs and out of the building during an emergency evacuation
