QA Test Lead

Role Tasks & Responsibilities

Working closely with other POW web team volunteers and staff to implement improvements to our digital infrastructure including a rebrand and the expansion of our POW Climate Pledge.

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking an experienced QA Lead responsible for for ensuring the quality of our digital infrastructure as move to a new JAMstack architecture.

You will be a detail orientated, organised and bring solid practical experience of implementing QA best practices on digital delivery.

Mostly importantly you will have experience working on your own initiative, of taking ownership of a project or task as part of a team and a hunger to learn & share knowledge.

Obviously a personal commitment to the mission and values of Protect Our Winters and a drive to support others to take effective action is also really important.

Responsibilities

  • Define Testing Standards, Strategies and Plans
  • Lead the QA function and ideally help grow the team
  • Manage risks and defect triage
  • Work with the team to improve delivery processes
  • Writing and running test plans
  • Pairing with other team members to share knowledge and ensure features are delivered to a high standard.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Solid understanding of modern QA tools, practices and standards
  • Appreciation of A11Y Standards and how to test to them
  • Experience of security and performance testing using open source tools
  • Knowledge of how to interact with REST & GraphQL APIs
  • Proficient understanding of GIT

Automated Test Engineer

  • Identifying & researching issues in software through testing
  • Collaborating with and mentoring the wider team to delivery practical high quality solutions
  • Keeping updated with the latest industry developments & recommending solutions
  • Working with the team to build and reuse unit, cases, stubs, drivers and other objects.

Frontend Engineer

We are seeking an experienced frontend engineer. This position requires a combination of programming skills (namely JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5 & CSS3) and aesthetics (understanding element arrangements on the screen, the colour and font choices, and so on).

You should have a good understanding of industry trends, headless content management and ecommerce. Experience with UX, accessibility, responsive and adaptive design is essential. Also, an understanding of the entire modern web development process, including design, development, and deployment is preferred.

Mostly importantly you will have experience working on your own initiative, of taking ownership of a project or task as part of a team and a hunger to learn & share knowledge.

Obviously a personal commitment to the mission and values of Protect Our Winters and a drive to support others to take effective action is also really important.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing new features and functionality on JAMstack
  • Establishing and guiding the website’s architecture and technology choices
  • Ensuring high-performance and availability along with the rest of the team
  • Helping formulate an effective, responsive design and turning it into a working frontend
  • Integrating ecommerce, membership and subscription APIs
  • Pairing with other developers to share knowledge and ensure features are delivered to a high standard.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript
  • Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications

  • Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome inspector, etc.

Accounts Manager

Role Tasks & Responsibilities

1. Reconciling the charity’s Triodos bank account in Xero in order to produce quarterly VAT returns and monthly updates to the Trustees on income and expenses. 

  •  In addition to BACs payments in / out we also have a charity debit card to make payments. 
  •  Staff and volunteer expenses are processed through Receipt Bank.   
  •  Currently these are all very low volumes <20/month across all channels.

 2) Set-up and manage monthly PAYE for our staff - currently one staff member, likely to be two in near future.

 3) Prepare quarterly VAT returns for the charity - we are now VAT registered and have our first submission due at the end of October.

 

About Protect Our Winters UK

Protect Our Winters UK is a charity formed to educate and support UK outdoor sports communities to mobilise and take positive action on climate change, starting with snowsports.

We do this by engaging individuals and organisations through their snowsports livelihoods and passions. We educate them on the risks of climate change and support them to take effective action.

Who we’re looking for

The POW Accounts Manager will have recent and relevant work managing accounts for a small business or charity.

Ideally experience of working with Xero and HMRC’s PAYE and VAT systems.

They will have experience working on their own initiative and taking ownership of a project or task but happy to ask for help when required

Fullstack Developer

We are seeking an experienced full stack engineer implement improvements and maintenance of our main website on JAMstack & Strapi.

What will you be doing?

You'll enable us to relaunch a high quality version of our climate pledge as soon as possible, to empower SMEs (and potentially individuals) to reach net zero carbon faster.

You'll enable us to to delivery a more cohesive brand consistent message both in the UK and globally.  The global charity chapters are fairly disjointed so we are looking at this as an opportunity to build a solid open source design system and platform backed by an evolving digital strategy to enable other countries to come on board faster and in a less labour intensive manner.

    We are creating a new support portal for businesses which may not be on this but is not decided where.

We are a micro team and value initiative greatly, so you should feel comfortable taking ownership of projects while collaborating closely with our marketing manager. A good understanding of social media platforms and previous experience creating content are essential to this role.

Above all, we're looking for someone who shares our love of the outdoors and is driven to empower others to take meaningful action.

This is an exciting opportunity to lend your skills to a cause that truly matters while gaining valuable experience in content creation for a nonprofit organisation.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Create engaging content across our channels that will educate, inspire, and resonate with our audiences.

University Rep (volunteer)

We’re growing our volunteer team, and we want you to be part of it.

Protect Our Winters UK helps passionate outdoor people become effective climate advocates to achieve systemic solutions to climate change, protecting our world today and for future generations.

We rely on enthusiastic volunteers to grow our community and increase our impact and therefore we are currently looking to recruit a number of University Reps, who are members of university outdoor societies, to broaden our reach and help us drive positive climate action across the country to an engaged audience of university students. 

The University Rep will be part of the wider POW UK Universities Team working with the Head of Programmes, Programme Coordinator and team of University Coordinator volunteers to help us grow this arm of the charity. 

ROLE TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the delivery of POW’s effective climate action through the promotion of our campaigns both online and in-person within their university society. 
  • Work with our POW University Coordinators to organise fundraising activities at your society.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • The University Rep will be an active member of a university outdoor society (snow, climb, mountain biking, trail running etc).  
  • They will possess excellent verbal communication skills and be confident delivering the POW message.
  • They will have experience working on their own initiative and taking ownership of a project or task.
  • They will have a personal commitment to the mission and values of Protect Our Winters and a drive to take effective action on climate change.

OUR EXPECTATIONS

  • Our University Rep can commit to hosting at least 1 x fundraising event at their society per year. 
  • They will actively share POW UK’s campaigns both in-person and online.
  • They will represent POW UK within their society embodying our values and promoting our message in a positive manner.
