Social Supports for Senior Immigrants & Newcomers

These programs provide one on one and group engagement activities to support newcomer Seniors who are facing social isolation and other barriers. All ages welcome!

English Conversation Circle Conductor

Practice makes perfect! Encourage newcomers to speak English during this conversation class. Prepare material for each class, prompt dialogue, and participation. Good English skills, compassion and attention required.

For Conductor roles, preference is given to people with experience teaching English as an Additional Language.

At various locations. Weekday activity

Event/Workshop/Activity Assistant

Event Assistants help with; Job Fairs, fundraisers, community events, workshops, special events.

Tasks may include - greeting people, registration, wayfinding, set up and clean up.

You will learn about MOSAIC from many different perspectives, meeting many clients and staff members.

These activities provide short-term and one-time activities with a variety of schedules. 

Digital Literacy

Assist newcomers to develop their knowledge and skills to use technology.

So many things we do require us to use technology. Digital Literacy volunteers assist newcomers with one on one supports, group workshops and first language supports. 

 

Language Centres

Volunteer with one of our Language Centres and assist instructors with English training. Several roles are available for volunteers with advanced or native English levels. You should be patient and encouraging and have good facilitation skills. Having TESOL certification is a bonus!

Culture Connections Mentors

Spend two hours a week helping a newcomer learn about Canadian culture, history and lifestyles; participate in their community; connect with local new people and improve their English.

Culture Mentors are matched with a newcomer and meet for two hours once a week for three months. You're welcome to attend our entertaining “Culture & Conversation" nights each month.

You can volunteer as a Culture Mentor if you have leadership experience, are responsible, empathetic and patient, familiar with Canadian life, fluent in English (accents welcome), and aged 19 or over.

Career Mentor - must have 3 years of local professional experience

Spend up to 24 hours over four months mentoring a new immigrant as they prepare for work in Canada. Share your knowledge and experience with your mentee. Help them navigate the job search process by assisting with resume and interview preparation. Give tips on successful networking. Provide insights into Canadian workplaces and work culture.

Mentors are welcome from any profession, provided you have been employed in Metro Vancouver for at least three years. You should have links to professional and business networks, an interest in other cultures, and great interpersonal skills. The time commitment is flexible and can adapt to your schedule.

Practicum Student Placement

MOSAIC partners with a wide variety of post-secondary education organizations. Please email volunteer@mosaicbc.org to discuss options available upon completion of your application. 

Tax Clinic Volunteer

If you are interested to support as a Tax Clinic Volunteer, please select this as your general interest and specify your credentials in the application. 

Tax Clinics are annual events. 

We have shortlisted our candidates for the 2025 tax year. However, we still encourage you to apply as we may need additional support.
