ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
MOSAIC engage is one of the social enterprise divisions of MOSAIC BC. MOSAIC engage Programs are open to all newcomers, regardless of their status in Canada (including visitors, work permit holders, refugee claimants, citizens, permanent residents, international students, and many more). As a social enterprise, MOSAIC engage does not receive funding from the government or other sources. As a non-profit organization, the program is not required to generate profits, but every dollar goes towards the cost of running the programs and surplus is reinvested into our organization to improve services for newcomers to BC.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of the IELTS Testing Centre Volunteer is to provide support to MOSAIC engage staff in preparing a welcoming environment for clients, which directly supports MOSAIC’s Social Enterprise efforts and MOSAIC programs. Volunteer support is vital, as volunteers provide additional support to the staff team. Volunteers help staff ensure efficient set up and take down of testing sites and support staff in providing a positive interaction and warm welcome for clients visiting the centres.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Setting up registration and test areas before clients come in
- Welcoming clients at the entrance and guiding them to the staff member(s) at the registration area
- Guiding test takers to the test rooms after registering with a staff member
- Helping staff take down registration counter and taking down the space
- Relaying client questions or inquiries to staff members
THIS ROLE WOULD BE SUITABLE FOR SOMEONE WHO:
- Enjoys in-person interactions with staff and community members
- Enjoys being in a quick-paced and interactive environment
TIME COMMITMENT:
- Volunteer commitments are Saturdays from 8:00am to 11:00am
- Preference will be given to volunteers who can commit 2-3 shifts per month
- Volunteers who are selected may choose shifts that work best for them via the MyImpact Opportunities Calendar
REQUIREMENTS:
- All applicants must go through our MOSAIC volunteer screening and onboarding process
- Screening process includes Volunteer Interview, Reference Checks, Criminal Record Check Clearance Letter, Agree to MOSAIC’s Confidentiality Policy and Volunteer Agreement
- Complete mandatory CORE Orientation & Trainings and role-specific trainings
- Volunteers are required to find their own mode of transportation to volunteer sites
- Volunteers may be asked to lift heavy items up to 20lb
