In order to run these large events we need volunteers that we can call on to help in a number of ways. This could be as a marshal for a run or walk, helping run a stall/registration desk, handing out goodies, collecting with a bucket, bag packing at a supermarket or even getting dressed to add the element of fun to the event! This list is not exhaustive!

Chaplaincy volunteers play an important role within our Barnsley Hospital Chaplaincy Team. Our Chaplaincy Volunteers visitors are drawn from a wide variety of faith and need to be a member of good standing within their own faith or philosophical tradition. Our volunteers are trained and supported in offering a friendly, compassionate and a non-judgemental listening presence to patient, families and staff.
Our Chaplaincy Volunteers assist the work of the Chaplains and are assigned to a specific ward to spend time with patients on a one-to-one basis, providing companionship, pastoral and spiritual support as needed. Such as 'being there' for patients and offering a listening ear or prayer support as appropriate.
Our busy coffee shop is a popular stop-off points for patients, visitors and staff alike. Your customer service skills need to be at their best as you take orders, prepare hot drinks / snacks and operate the till (full training is provided).

There are many opportunities to volunteer within Maternity Services. This is such a busy environment and being friendly, welcoming and helpful is therefore an absolute must working in this area. The role varies, from welcoming and greeting women and their partners, to escorting women to other areas when needed such as the Ultrasound Department. Within the Maternity Services we have a range of different areas to volunteer in:
Our friendly Meet & Greet volunteers help and support patients and visitors in a variety of different ways, from advice about hospital services to showing patients where to find the ward or department they are looking for. The ‘Meet & Greeters’ are mainly based at main reception but sometimes may need to cover other entrances of the hospital and are always around to give help and answer queries. An important role is to escort patients around the hospital to their appointment or to the wards. If you think you could help patients in this way, then this is just the role for you.
The Well is based in Barnsley Town Centre and offers complementary therapies such as massages to patients with a cancer diagnosis. To volunteer at The Well you must have the ability to make patients feel relaxed and comfortable. As a volunteer, it would be your role to escort the patients to and from the reception to The Well on the 3rd floor. You would also help the therapists to set up, clear when necessary, and help to complete the therapist’s activity sheets. Within this role we also offer support to patients of scarf tying and giving advice on headwear after hair loss.
