Enhanced Support (Maternity Services) (18+ Only)
Please note, you must be 18 or over to apply for this role.
There are many opportunities to volunteer within Maternity Services. This is such a busy environment and being friendly, welcoming and helpful is therefore an absolute must working in this area. The role varies, from welcoming and greeting women and their partners, to escorting women to other areas when needed such as the Ultrasound Department. Within the Maternity Services we have a range of different areas to volunteer in:
- Antenatal Day Unit - Meeting and greeting women and their partners attending the Day Unit and keeping them informed about waiting times. Supporting patients by talking and listening to them and introducing them to the staff. Giving patients/families information about the Maternity Service User Group ( Maternity Voices). Supporting patients to give feedback about their experiences via the NHS Friends and Family Test.
- Antenatal & Postnatal Ward - Meeting and greeting women, their partners and visitors attending the ward. Supporting staff by making the bottle and breast feeding discharge packs. Supporting the ward clerk with basic administrative duties such as filing case notes after discharge and preparing paperwork for women undergoing inductions of labour or caesarean sections. Supporting patients to give feedback about their experiences via the NHS Friends and Family Test.
- Birthing Centre - Meeting and greeting women and their partners attending the unit and escorting them to the Maternity Assessment Unit when necessary. Stocking up stationary, supplies and making maternity packs. Supporting staff with transferring notes to other clinical areas such as the Antenatal and Postnatal ward. Supporting the maternity team with the provision of non-clinical care such as providing drinks to patients in the birthing centre. Supporting patients to give feedback about their experiences via the NHS Friends and Family Test.
