Hello!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Martha's Table.  We have many opportunities from serving in the dining room, kitchen prep, dishwashing to meal delivery, and working the take out window!

Please complete an application, uploading the signed volunteer waiver and your Covid-19 vaccination proof.  If you have any trouble with the uploads you can sign up for an in-person orientation session.  At the orientation you will sign a waiver and show vaccination status, then you will be set up to schedule yourself for the shifts that fit your interest and schedule.

There are several mandatory training modules that need to be completed prior to being able to sign up for shifts. When completing your application be sure to hit submit and then you will be able to access the trainings from your MYPROFILE Tab in your portal.

General Kitchen Prep work

This is a behind the scenes role. Help our cooks with prepping the vegetables, by chopping, cutting vegetables for our meals.  

Also portioning out desserts to be served for meal delivery, our take out window and dining room service.

This shift is normally from 9 - 1 and we have openings 7 days a week.

Lunch Server in Dining Room - Weekdays

Serve our guests in the dining room.  This may also include working the coffee station or plating meals for service. This shift is available Monday through Friday and is from 11:30 - 2:30 

Position Summary:
As a Dining Room Server, you will play a crucial role in providing a warm and welcoming dining experience for our clients. You will be responsible for various tasks, including taking orders, serving meals, ensuring cleanliness, and contributing to the overall efficiency of our dining service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Service: Take orders, serve meals, and make coffee to ensure a pleasant dining experience for our clients.
  • Hygiene and Safety: Adhere to strict hygiene standards by wearing an apron, hair net or hat, and gloves when plating food. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Kitchenette Stocking: Keep the kitchenette well-stocked with necessary supplies for meal service.
  • Dishwashing: Assist with dishwashing duties if no busser is on staff, and wash dishes as needed to maintain a clean and efficient workspace.
  • Safety Awareness: Never put yourself in harm's way; report any safety or security concerns to the dining room supervisor on duty.

Shift Commitment: Attend scheduled shifts punctually and reliably; if unable to make a shift, communicate as soon as possible to allow time for finding a replacement. While we do not require minimum number of shifts, a weekly commitment is appreciated

Take out window

Position Summary: As a Take Out Window Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing a warm and efficient take-out service for our clients. You will be responsible for various tasks, including serving guests, ensuring the proper distribution of meals, maintaining cleanliness, and contributing to the overall efficiency of our take-out service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-Shift Duties: Arrive on time (11:30-11:45) Assist staff in putting the tables and chairs outside, setting up the water and cups for guests

  • Food Service: Serve meals to clients, ensure those receiving multiple meals have signed up for a meal card, Tally each meal on the meal count sheet to ensure accurate data is collected.

  • Hygiene and Safety: Adhere to strict hygiene standards by wearing an apron, hair net or hat, and gloves when handling food. Maintain a clean and organized work area.

  • Stock Management: Keep the take-out window well-stocked with necessary supplies for meal service. Make sure to notify the operations manager when supplies are low (utensils, napkins, condiments) When the window is slow bag dog and cat food donations 

  • Post-Shift Duties: At the end of the shift, date the remaining containers and place them in the refrigerator. Help staff bring in the tables and chairs from outside and clean up the water and other tables.

  • Cleaning: Sort and clean the to-go tables, take all boxes to the cardboard table, and ensure all blue bins are wiped out with sanitizer and placed under the stairs in the hall. If the blue bins are dirty with food, take them to the kitchen to be run through the dishwasher.

  • Safety Awareness: Never put yourself in harm's way; report any safety or security concerns to the supervisor on duty.

  • Shift Commitment: Attend scheduled shifts punctually and reliably; if unable to make a shift, communicate as soon as possible to allow time for finding a replacement. While we do not require a minimum number of shifts, a weekly commitment is appreciated.

Dishwasher

Help keep Martha's Table clean and tidy!  We are small team and we need your help.  Washing dishes, pots and pans. General tidying up as well as end of day sweeping.

These shifts are generally available from Morning Shift 10 AM to 12:30 PM Afternoon Shift 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM or Late Afternoon shift is 3:30 to 6:00 PM

Position Summary:
You will play a crucial role in the restaurant. Working in the kitchen at our dish machine, you ensure that the machine is washing dishes properly, loaded properly and that the items are returned to the dining room to be put away or you will put them away in the kitchen.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Service:  Working safely near the food, ensuring that the dish machine is kept to the proper temperature, working with the head cook to ensure that the chemicals used are the right calibration and that the dishes are cleaned quickly and returned to the location for putting them away.

Hygiene and Safety: Adhere to strict hygiene standards by wearing an apron, hair net or hat, and gloves when in the kitchen.  Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Safety Awareness: Never put yourself in harm's way; report any safety or security concerns to the dining room supervisor on duty.

Shift Commitment: Attend scheduled shifts punctually and reliably; if unable to make a shift, communicate as soon as possible to allow time for finding a replacement.

These shifts are generally available from 8:30 t0 11:30 or 11:30 to 2:30

Position Summary:
Plating meals, you will play a crucial role in serving our guests. Working in either the main kitchen or one of the kitchenettes in the dining room, you will help plate the to go meals or the plated meals served in the dining room

This may also include helping the kitchen plate meals for the delivery to the next day.

General Handyman Maintenance

 

Are you handy?  Want to help Marthas Table with odd jobs around the building?

These would be attaching covers to light switches, moving items, among other tasks.

This is not a regularly scheduled shift, please let us know your availability and we can make a list of tasks that need to be done!

 

 

Cooks Assistant

Work in the kitchen alongside our chefs.  This is a very important position to ensure that our meals are prepared on time.  

These shifts are generally Monday to Friday from 8:30 - 12:30 or 12:30 to 3:30

Help Martha's Table by delivering meals to individuals who are unable to come to Martha's Table in person.  

Meal delivery driver shifts start at 11:30 and normally ends around 1:30 depending on the route assigned that day.

Volunteer Meal Delivery Driver - Job Description

Position Summary:

As a Volunteer Meal Delivery Driver for Martha's Table Community Program in Kingston, Ontario, you will play a vital role in ensuring that nutritious meals reach those in need within our community. Each day, our free restaurant serves over 400 meals, and your assistance in delivering these meals helps us extend our reach and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

Meal Delivery: Safely and efficiently deliver meals to designated locations, ensuring timely and accurate delivery to our clients.

Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure your vehicle is in good working condition, properly maintained, and stocked with necessary supplies for safe meal transportation.

Client Interaction: Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor when interacting with meal recipients, ensuring a positive experience.

Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all traffic laws and safety protocols, including the use of masks and sanitation practices as required.

Documentation: Complete and submit any required delivery documentation promptly and accurately.

Communication: Stay in regular communication with the volunteer coordinator regarding your delivery schedule, any issues encountered, and updates on delivery status.

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.

  • Current vehicle insurance.

  • Recent Vulnerable Sector CPIC (within the last 2 years).

Volunteer Requirements:

To ensure the safety and efficiency of our meal delivery program, we request all volunteer drivers to update their information in our Better Impact Volunteer System. Your cooperation is vital in maintaining the quality of our services. The specific updates we need from you include:

  • Updated Driver's License: Please upload a copy of your current driver's license.

  • Insurance Cards: Kindly upload copies of your current insurance cards.

  • COVID Vaccination Status: We need to know your COVID vaccination status for safety purposes.

Additionally, we have new driver training and a driver agreement that we would like you to complete. These steps will help ensure that you are well-prepared and informed as a volunteer driver.

Time Commitment:

We ask for a commitment of one shift per week for up to 2 1/2 hours during lunch hour, specifically from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM.

Recycling to Recycling Center

Help Martha's Table with our recycling!  Taking the recycling to the local sorting collection center once a week.  

 

Donation Pickup Driver

 

This position helps Marthas Table collect food donations from various locations across Kingston.  In order to drive the Marthas Table van it will be required that the driver is on our insurance and has a clean driving record. 

This shift is generally 9:30 - 11 AM Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

Sorting Donations

This shift is not a regular shift.  Please let us know if you want to come in to help sort donations and we will be in touch.

Laundry/General Upkeep

Help Martha's Table with Laundry and general upkeep in the mornings!

 

Meal Delivery Setup/Assistance

Shift Availability: 10:30 - 2:00

Position Summary:
As a meal delivery setup assistant, you will play a crucial role in setting up the meals to be delivered to our clients who can not leave their homes. Assisting our meal delivery coordinator you will be responsible for various tasks; putting the meals in the to go bags for the drivers, carrying them to the cars and once the meals are picked up you will help setup for the outside take out area.

This may also include helping the kitchen plate meals for the delivery to the next day. 

Key Responsibilities:

Food Service: Properly packing the bags for the drivers who deliver meals.

Hygiene and Safety: Adhere to strict hygiene standards by wearing an apron, hair net or hat, and gloves when plating food. Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Assistant to a delivery driver: There may be times when we will need you to help deliver the meals if a driver does not have a partner to help them

Safety Awareness: Never put yourself in harm's way; report any safety or security concerns to the dining room supervisor on duty.

Holidays Special Shifts

Volunteering at Martha’s Table during the holiday season is a meaningful way to give back by helping prepare and serve holiday meals to those in need. From working in the kitchen to serving meals and assisting with takeout, your efforts will bring warmth and nourishment to our community.

In the Kitchen: Volunteers assist with all aspects of meal preparation, including chopping vegetables, cooking, and plating meals for both dine-in and takeout service. You’ll work with our kitchen staff to ensure food is prepared safely, and you’ll help maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the process.

Serving at the Takeout Window: For guests picking up meals to go, volunteers will serve at the takeout window, distributing meals and beverages with a smile. This role ensures that those who cannot stay for a sit-down meal still receive a warm, nutritious holiday dinner in a welcoming atmosphere.

Serving Meals: Once meals are prepared, volunteers will set tables, serve food to guests, and provide a friendly, festive experience. You'll help create a warm environment, making everyone feel valued.

Bus Tables & Dishwashing: After meals are served, volunteers assist with bussing tables and ensuring the dining area remains clean and orderly. Additionally, you may help wash dishes to keep the kitchen running smoothly and prepared for the next round of service.

Your role at Martha’s Table will make a lasting impact, helping to ensure that everyone in our community can enjoy a holiday meal. Whether you’re preparing, serving, or assisting with clean-up, your time and energy will be appreciated by all.
