The BESTD Clinic began in 1974 when community volunteers responded to rising sexually transmitted infections and limited access to care in Milwaukee. Originally founded as the Gay People’s Union Venereal Disease Clinic, it operated in small rented spaces before moving to its current home in 1981. The clinic has always been volunteer-driven and focused on serving unmet community health needs. In the early 1980s, volunteers helped launch the Milwaukee AIDS Project in response to the emerging HIV epidemic. Today, BESTD remains a leading site for anonymous HIV testing, outreach clinics, and free prevention services, continuing its mission of compassionate, accessible care for the community.

Brady East STD Clinic Mission
The mission of the Brady East STD Clinic is to provide quality, professional sexually transmitted disease diagnosis and treatment as well as HIV/AIDS prevention counseling and testing in a manner that is sensitive to the sexual orientation and gender identity of our clients.
