The volunteer role will provide a positive, safe and smooth flowing experience while public attend flu clinics. Volunteers will greet public coming to immunization clinics and direct them to waiting areas and to the next available immunizer

The Victoria Hospital Hospitality/ Wayfinder Ambassador is a qualified adult volunteer who has been trained to assist in welcoming patients, families and visitors to various areas of the hospital. As well, they may assist in answering general questions regarding services available in the hospital. This will lessen the anxiety of patients/ family. This program will help with wayfinding during the construction of the new build.
Interpersonal skills are very important for this volunteer role.
Position is repeated daily Monday - Friday monthly, long term, volunteers would would commit to one shift per week.
Shifts are 9:00 am-12 noon and 12 noon to 3:00 pm
Clients benefit from interacting with volunteers through positive engagement in community programs. Volunteers offer a unique perspective and model the way; as many of them have had the same experiences. Clients will receive support and encouragement from the volunteer to persevere through the challenges they are currently facing.
Duties include:
· Register all families visiting the Family Room
· Provide tours to new guests of the Family Room
· Greet and assist families
· Answer family inquiries
· Work with families during various activities (craft programs, games, movie night, etc.)
· Answer telephone
· Accept donations
· Liaise with hospital staff
· Maintain snack and beverage inventory
· Make coffee
· Assist with laundry when necessary
· Maintain tidiness and cleanliness of room
· Sanitize regularly
· Ensure supplies are stocked and well maintained
· Liaise with hospital staff to ensure a clean environment for families
· Communicate with other volunteers, and the Family Room Manager
· Keep statistical records
· Assist with the Hospitality Cart program and Food Program in NICU
Meals on Wheels Volunteers deliver nutritious meals to clients assessed as needing support with nutrition.
Personal accomplishment, develop and enhance communication skills, learn new job skills & obtain a work routine, being involved & giving back to community.
Volunteer picks up meals at given time from the outlet and delivers to client in their home.

The Youth-in-Action Ambassador assists with various activities at the site. They encourage client's participation in activities.
They are the extra pair of "helping hands" that add to the trained services of the Long-term care facility staff, working together to enhance the lives of residents.
Youth Volunteers provide an intergenerational contact between youth and the elderly. The program supports the ongoing personal development of youth volunteers as they learn to become comfortable and responsible for their volunteer duties in a long term care/ acute care setting. It is an opportunity to allow youth to develop an interest in the health care field while assisting the long term care / acute care employees and to experience first hand the different health care roles for future consideration.
This role runs from November - May
Shifts are Monday - Thursday 4:00 pm - 6:00 p.m.
The Horticulture Associate will be able to bring joy to residents. They will share talents in garden, visit with elders of the community and improve the resident's outdoor experience
They assist residents in caring for the outdoor space we have during our Spring/summer/ fall season.
Duties may include: Watering, feed, transplant plants, weed plant beds, trim/prune plants as required, maintain tidiness in garden area.

The Associate benefits the residents who are able to go out in the community for shopping, bowling, casino, lunches, picnics, museum tours etc. This gives the residents some freedom along with the supervision and support from the volunteer.
Recreation program support for groups outings in and around the community. The volunteer would meet the recreation staff and residents at the agreed upon time, location and be assigned a resident, they would have a conversation, assist with pushing wheelchair, assist with resident individual activity, give support as needed.

Activities include, but are not limited to: Reading groups, puzzles, games, bingo, nail painting, going for walks, group painting, crafts, exercise programs, and special events like Christmas parties and teas. Birthday parties, volunteer group outings.
Mondays to Fridays, mornings and afternoons. Must be able to make a weekly commitment.
Residents enjoy many benefits from the daily activities provided by recreation staff and with the assistance of volunteers gives more helping hands. these activities and extra set of hand provides mental, social emotional, and physical stimulation to long term care residents. this service will allow the resident to continue with activities that were part of daily living before entering the facility
Activities include: assist residents on community outings, shopping trips, casino, restaurant. Assist with handling cash, push resident in wheelchair, help resident with shopping list. Assist resident on bus to medical appointments, hand sealed medical information to doctor receptionist and push resident in wheelchair.
Days/Times: Monday to Friday mornings and afternoons
Commitment: 2X/month for community outings, medical appointments - on call as needed.
Volunteers provide diversion/interactive activities and emotional support. They will help orientate patients with dementia and/or confusion, support families and patients experiencing emotionally difficult times and provide a therapeutic relationship to patients through activities like reading, playing cards or games, sitting and visiting, filling water jugs, taking cart with snacks or magazines around, assisting patients with opening of meal lids and packages, assist with redirection, and decorate and/or assist with special events/holidays or group programs.

Volunteers will assist with efficiency of influenza clinics by greeting clients, asking them to remove jacket, directing them to next available station, direct them to post-immunization monitoring area and advise a nurse if anyone indicated they are feeling unwell
Shifts will be Monday - Friday - Times and dates will vary depending upon the clinic. Clinics will be held Mid Oct until December.
