17 Mile House Farm Park open house events have concluded for 2022. More family fun and educational events will start back up in April 2023. The house and barn interiors are open for group tours and school visits by appointment only. Visitors can step back in time at 17 Mile House, a 160-year old farm which served as an important resting stop for pioneers traveling on the Cherokee/Smoky Hill wagon trails in the 1860s. This County-designated heritage area is managed by Open Spaces with support from volunteers. Volunteers lead tours, interpret historical and natural history, and provide hands-on experiences. Volunteers also create interpretive displays, maintain the gardens, and care for the historic collection of artifacts.
The Arapahoe County Fair happens each year, the last weekend in July.
Pair up with a neighbor in need of shoveling support within walking or close driving distance of your own home. For neighbors in need of assistance, snowy walkways and driveways create a significant safety hazard. You will provide a necessary service and build a sense of community by offering snow shoveling support.
Volunteers are paired with one or more seniors to help with weekly (or as needed) grocery store trips. The volunteer can also assist with putting groceries away, prescription pick-up, and mail pick-up.
The volunteer and the senior will agree on COVID-19 precautions as they determine appropriate. This is an ongoing volunteer role with a 6 months minimum commitment.
The Point-In-Time Homelessness survey is an annual count of Colorado’s homelessness population provides valuable information for the state to understand and respond to the needs of transient individuals.
If you are interested in volunteering with the sheriff's office you will need to fill out the attached application. It includes a release that needs to be notarized prior to submitting and starting any volunteer role.
Volunteers receive a free T-shirt, snacks, beverages, and preferred parking.
Many positions are outside and will keep you on your feet, but there are plenty of indoor and sit-down options. Individuals ages 16+ (unless accompanied by a parent/guardian) and groups are welcome to volunteer.
Volunteers who volunteer for 8 or more hours are eligible for one free admission into the Fair on any day of their choosing.
