ParkCare ACT

Welcome to the ParkCare Hub!

Welcome to the ACT Parks and Conservation Service ParkCare Volunteer Hub.

This is where you can volunteer to lend a hand in the conservation of ACT Parks and Reserves and find out all about the exciting volunteering opportunities available! The ParkCare initiative has been a flagship community volunteer program hosted by the ACT Parks and Conservation Service since 1989. We work in partnership with the community to provide opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to become involved in volunteer programs.

Who are we?

ParkCare is divided into four streams

ParkCare Patch: Join one of the many ParkCare and 'Friends of' groups throughout the ACT to help to protect and enhance your  local environment. ParkCare Patch volunteers provide an invaluable contribution to the planning and ongoing management of ecosystems and reserves in the ACT.

RangerAssist: Work side by side with our rangers to help with a diverse range of tasks associated with managing our environment.

VisitorAssist: Work face-to-face with our visitors through the popular Visitor Interpretation Program at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Namadgi National Park or in one of our visitor information centres.

WildlifeAssist: Work with the Threatened Species Team at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve to help with the care and management of our native wildlife. Other field surveys and specialist programs are included in this program, including Grassland Earless Dragon, Platypus counts and Koala counts.

ParkCare Visitor Assist

These volunteering roles work face to face with our visitors to help them to interpret and experience the Parks and Reserves they are visiting.

Roles include volunteer interpreters, working at the visitor information centres and helping Rangers to develop interpretation material.

These volunteers should be well presented, articulate and have experience in working with the public.

Volunteers working in Visitor Assist roles will need to attain their Working With Vulnerable People card and attend an induction.
