Audubon Climate Watch Surveys

According to Audubon’s 2019 climate change report, ‘Survival By Degrees,’ up to two-thirds of North American birds are vulnerable to extinction due to climate change. The good news is that there are plenty of opportunities to protect birds from this existential threat, and Audubon members have been leading the way for years. In 2014, after the publication of Audubon's first climate change report, thousands of people asked how they could help make the world a better place for birds, and Climate Watch was born. Since 2016, Climate Watch volunteers have collected data which Audubon scientists are able to use to document in peer reviewed research that birds are responding to climate change and shifting their ranges.

Audubon Coastal Bird Survey-Hancock County

The Audubon Coastal Bird Survey is a volunteer-based citizen science program designed to provide scientists with valuable data for addressing conservation needs of coastal waterbirds that breed, winter and migrate along the Gulf Coast. The program, originally established through the Pascagoula River Audubon Center in response to the BP oil spill, is already providing valuable population and habitat-use data for a variety of coastal waterbirds, many of which are experiencing population declines. Stewardship Steering Committee

Stewardship Steering Committee meetings occur approximately once per month. All volunteers, with or without experience, are welcome to attend these meetings. At these sessions, we plan for and brainstorm activities to promote awareness, provide outreach, and recruit new volunteers to help in our breeding bird stewardship efforts. Everyone is invited to attend! Currently, we are meeting in-person, outside. The meetings are be held at Long Beach Market and Deli at 20110 Pineville Rd, Long Beach, MS 39560 (map).
