Volunteer Opportunities
DOXA Graphic Design & Communications Assistant
PRE FESTIVAL ROLE - Early March - April
- Do you like to practice your computer skills?
- Do you enjoy designing, and feel confident using a number of different design programs?
- Are you experienced in Video editing?
- Do you feel confident with platforms such as Instagram and Tik Tok?
Volunteer Qualities:
- Friendly, focused, learns quickly and independently
- May be seeking volunteer experience to add to career development
Responsibilities:
- Comfortable coming to our offices to help before the festival
- Will be assigned tasks to perform in a separate space
- Will work closely with our Communications & Marketing Manager
We may ask for a portfolio or previous design work.
DOXA Office Assistants

PRE FESTIVAL ROLE - Early March - April
- Do you like to practice your computer skills or put together packages?
- Are you friendly? Have good communication skills? Dependable? Able to work independently and maintain a professional image with all contacts made?
Volunteer Qualities:
- Friendly, focused, learns quickly and independently
- May be seeking volunteer experience to add to career development
Responsibilities:
- Comfortable coming to our offices to help before the festival
- Will be assigned tasks to perform in a separate space
May be capable of: Data entry, Label making, Retrieving photos from email, Assembling and organizing festival guest packages.
DOXA Program and Poster Distribution Volunteer
PRE FESTIVAL ROLE - Early April
- Do you like to walk around Vancouver?
- Do you have a car or bike?
- Do you like to get to know local businesses?
- Are you dependable, friendly and have good communication skills?
- Able to work independently and maintain a professional image with all the contact made?
Responsibilities:
- Willing to work independently or with another volunteer to distribute festival programs, posters, flyers throughout designated areas
- Has a vehicle or enjoys walking in local neighbourhoods, connecting with local businesses
- Interested in learning and sharing knowledge of festival FAQs
- Distribution volunteers can take as many or as few promotional materials as they want to take- All help is appreciated!
DOXA Transportation Volunteer

FESTIVAL ROLE
- Are you interested in supporting DOXA by transporting filmmakers and DOXA Festival Guests?
- Do you have a vehicle and some flexible hours of availability?
- Are you willing to donate time and room in your car to the festival?
Volunteer Qualities:
- Friendly, Engaged, Service-oriented
Transportation volunteers are prepared to be:
- Respectful of filmmakers’ busy schedules
- Interested in and willing to donate time driving their own vehicle (with mileage reimbursement) to transport filmmakers and DOXA Festival Guests
- Possesses correct licensing and insurance for vehicle which includes a valid unrestricted Class 4 Driver’s license (some exceptions for Class 5 drivers permitted) and you have your own vehicle with $2 million liability insurance (or access to a vehicle).
- Drivers will be reimbursed for necessary parking and mileage between pickup and drop off locations (not including from the volunteer’s home).
DOXA Special Events Volunteer

FESTIVAL ROLE
- Do you like being a part of the crew for special events and parties?
- Do you enjoy helping with the set up and take down of events?
- Can you safely lift between 25-30 pounds?
- Do you have a Serving It Right/Special Events Server certificate?
Volunteer Qualities:
- Friendly, Engaged, Proactive
- Appreciates safe practices and governing regulations
Special Events Team Members have:
- Experience in event management
- Closed toe or steel-toed shoes
- Appropriate clothing for event-related duties (Festival T-shirt will be provided)
- A can-do attitude for event set up and striking duties
- An asset: Can safely lift up to 30 pounds
- Flexibility in abilities, including welcoming guests, registration, serving and bussing, ushering, providing information about DOXA programs
DOXA Photography & Videography Volunteer

FESTIVAL ROLE
- Are you interested in supporting DOXA with your exemplary eye and ability to capture an artful perspective within a moment?
- Are you friendly, have good communication skills, dependable, and able to work independently, maintaining professionalism with all DOXA-related contacts?
Volunteer Qualities:
- Supportive of DOXA photography and filming objectives.
- Interested in promoting DOXA by capturing eye catching moments and images that encapsulate the overall festival: its people, events and highlights.
As a DOXA Photography & Videography Volunteer you:
- Enjoy capturing a variety of photos at events ranging from posed guest shots, candid shots, promotional materials of sponsors at the festival, audience pans, and Q&A panels, visiting filmmakers and guests
- Will assist with the set-up and strike of certain spaces and photography/ filmmaking materials
- Are ready and available to supply your own equipment and basic post-production.
Please note: if you do not own all of these items, contact us with a list of what you have available.
PHOTOGRAPHERS: digital SLR, multiple lenses (at least one low light friendly), multiple 12GB+ memory cards, tripod/monopod, flash, card reader, editing software.
VIDEOGRAPHERS: digital video camera, onboard mic, onboard light source, multiple 12GB+ memory cards, tripod, ash card reader, editing software.
Volunteers include both the time in festival and in production with a minimum 16 hour commitment. Note that volunteers who commit and perform beyond 24 hours, shoot & post inclusive, are eligible for a Festival Pass and other perks.
DOXA Hospitality Volunteer

FESTIVAL ROLE
- Do you enjoy providing excellent hospitality and service to specialized audiences?
- Are you a server or bartender with “Serving It Right”?
- Are you reliable, and good with numbers?
Volunteer Qualities:
- Friendly and Engaged.
- Supportive of DOXA’s hospitality policies and all governing regulations.
As a DOXA Hospitality Volunteer you:
- Have ‘Serving It Right’.
- Bartending knowledge and experience.
- Capable of serving food or beverages during special events.
- Being available for DOXA festival special events.
- Able to lift and carry boxes and supplies.
- Able to stay up late.
DOXA Front of House Volunteer

FESTIVAL ROLE
- Are you good with numbers, people, and staying organized?
- Are you friendly, receptive, trustworthy, engaging, sharp, and energized?
- Do you enjoy offering kind assistance to the public?
- Do you like to be a part of the festival environment?
- Are you good with handling cash?
As a Front of House Volunteer you:
- Understand and participate in maintaining order in front of house at venues.
- Manage line-ups "Ticket Holders, and Ticket Buyers”.
- Assure that the audience has memberships by selling DOXA viewer memberships and handling, counting and reconciling membership cash sales.
- Allow for appropriate entry to the film by scanning tickets.
- Assist in ushering festival attendees.
- Invested in learning and sharing knowledge of festival FAQs.
- Are the face of the festival with facts and information.
DOXA Promotions Volunteer
FESTIVAL ROLE
- Do you enjoy low pressure value-align sales to promote the financial well being of DOXA?
- Do you identify as professional and relaxed in a sales role?
- Does the idea of achieving sales for social benefit bring you joy?
- Are you: Receptive, trustworthy, engaging, sharp and energized?
As a DOXA Promotions Volunteer you are:
- Promoting DOXA and assisting with Donor Drive.
- Ready to present donor information and sign up materials.
- Capable of keeping materials secure and confidential.
- Keen to sell DOXA promotional swag, such as t-shirts and tote bags.
- Enjoys engaging with audiences while collecting personal information data via the DOXA Audience Survey & Donor Drive.
- Interested in learning and sharing knowledge of festival FAQs.
- Interested in DOXA values.
DOXA Set Up Crew
FESTIVAL ROLE
• Assemble stages.
• Set up backdrops.
• Set-up chairs.
• Pick-up gear from storage locations.
• Put up sponsors signs up.
• Put up programmes at venues on Sandwich boards.
• Set up tea and coffee.
• Set up tables for Sound persons.
• Set up small tents.
• Set up traffic, parking barriers signage.
• Place signs around festival - directional, parking.
• Place no smoking signs around venues.
How Long: As long as it takes - Physical Effort Required!
