Please know that you need to be at least 18 years old at the time of your application and able to commit for  12 months doing a minimum of 3 hours/week.

Some of the ways you can support us are:

Front of House. No vacancies

Hospitals can be stressful places and our volunteers can often make the experience a little easier for people to deal with. 

The volunteer will meet and greet patients and visitors, assist with general queries and direct or walk people to different departments/areas within the hospital.

Requirements:

  • Have Previous experience in volunteer work or paid employment where customer service was a high focus    
  • Be able to communicate clearly.
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
  • Have to walk a lot, so his/her health status should enable the volunteer to carry out the duties required.

Ward Volunteers. No vacancies

Volunteer will assist staff on hospital wards with general non-clinical duties and as directed by staff.

Support includes directing visitors to patients and answering queries of a general nature;  helping at meal times, making beverages, providing comfort, tidying patient room, lounge, kitchen, talking with patients etc.

Volunteers may also support with some activities that aim at enhancing patient comfort and experience. Activities such as bingo, afternoon movie, knitting club, etc. The role and responsibilities vary depending on the needs of each ward. For example, our rehabilitation wards may need support more support in running activities.

Requirement

  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Prior experience in customer service
  • Demonstrates a friendly, warm and caring manner
  • Ability to listen effectively and communicate clearly
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy
  • Awareness of the need to seek assistance when issues are outside the boundaries of the role
  • Able to mingle with other cultures

Outpatient Volunteer. No vacancies

To support patients and staff within the Outpatient Department at North Shore and Waitakere Hospital

Volunteers will direct patients and visitors to different clinic areas to help patients get  to the right place at the right time on the right day. Volunteers also ensure patients 'comfort. 

In addition, they will assist where needed i.e. helping mothers with their children; checking that people waiting in queues are at the right place, supporting with administration tasks and providing hot beverage.

  • Ability to listen effectively and communicate clearly
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy
  • Pro-Active and ability to seek assistance when issues are outside the boundaries of the role
