Volunteer Opportunities

Office Volunteer

Position Purpose

The Office Volunteer serves as the welcoming face of Michelle’s Place, responsible for front reception and initial client or guest contact. They support Michelle’s Place’s mission by ensuring positive experiences for all contacts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uphold the vision and goals of Michelle’s Place.
  • Greet and welcome visitors, assist with client intake forms, look up clients in the CRM database, and help staff with administrative tasks.
  • Answer general inquiries and direct calls to the appropriate staff.
  • Provide facility tours to incoming clients.
  • Assist with wig fittings, prostheses, bras, chemo caps, and scarves.
  • Maintain a clean and organized facility, including wig drawers, Resource room, and fitting room. Ensure donated items are properly stored and cleaned if needed.
  • Have a general knowledge of the services and programs offered.
  • Meet attendance and punctuality requirements.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with all contacts.

Commitment

  • One weekly 3.5-hour shift is required.
  • Shifts: Morning (9:00 am – 12:00 pm) or Afternoon (12:00 pm – 3:30 pm), Monday to Friday.
  • Monthly shift on the 2nd Saturday from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.
  • Attend monthly volunteer meetings on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 12 pm – 1:30 pm.

Encouragement Caller (Cancer Thriver or Survivors Only)

Position Purpose

The Encouragement Caller plays a crucial role in supporting clients dealing with cancer, offering a compassionate listening ear, and assisting Navigators in addressing clients' needs. This position embodies our Vision Statement: "No one should face cancer alone."

Candidates must be cancer survivors or thrivers, out of treatment, and emotionally ready to engage with clients. Basic computer skills are necessary, and CRM training will be provided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uphold the vision and goals of Michelle’s Place.
  • Make supportive and compassionate calls to clients, offering emotional support and a listening ear.
  • Record notes from each call in the CRM database.

Commitment

  • One weekly 3-hour shift
  • Attend monthly volunteer meetings on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 12 pm – 1 pm
 

Community Outreach Coordinator Volunteer

Community Outreach Coordinator Volunteer

Position Purpose

The Community Outreach Coordinator Volunteer assists the Volunteer Coordinator by preparing marketing materials to promote Michelle’s Place and maintaining contact with our providers to ensure they have the necessary marketing resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare marketing packets for delivery to business offices.
  • Attach business cards to brochures for drop-off letters.
  • Make phone calls to providers to check if they need more marketing materials.
  • Deliver materials and coordinate volunteers to deliver materials where needed

Commitment

  • Communication will be through email or phone as needed, approximately 2-3 times a month.
  • Attend monthly volunteer meetings on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 12 pm – 1 pm.
 

 

Event Volunteers

Event Volunteer

Position Purpose

The Event Volunteer supports the successful execution of our main events, including Hope Lights the Night luminary event, Golf Tournaments, Walk of Hope, and various Michelle's Place fundraisers. While each event has unique tasks, the primary responsibilities are consistent across all events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set Up: Assist with setting up the event space, including arranging tables, decorations, and materials.
  • Registration: Help with the registration process for attendees, ensuring a smooth and efficient check-in.
  • Event Support: Assist at the event, addressing attendee needs and supporting event activities.
  • Silent Auction Monitors: Oversee and manage the silent auction, ensuring items are displayed correctly and bids are recorded.
  • Clean Up: Assist with post-event clean-up, including packing up materials, breaking down tables, and ensuring the venue is left in good condition.

Commitment

  • Volunteer roles are event-based, with varying dates and times.
  • Communication regarding specific event needs will be made through email or phone.
  • Attend monthly volunteer meetings on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 12 pm – 1 pm
 
 
 

Fundraising and Development Coordinator Volunteer

Fundraising and Development Coordinator Volunteer
Position Purpose
To assist the Fundraising & Development Coordinator in keeping up with communication with our Donors.
Assisting in getting promotional material ready to be delivered or mailed to potential donors.
● Hand write Thank You Notes to Donors (accurate and clear handwriting necessary)
● Invitation stuffing & mail prep - as needed
● Help in coordinating the Pick up of silent auction items from the community
● When all is returned to Michelle’s Place after event, reorganize and put all supplies back
● Coordinate things that need to be washed (ie. tablecloths, dishware, etc.)
 
Commitment - There are several opportunities to take on different rolls for all events. These people need to be able to complete the task at hand and be reliable for our
F & D Coordinator to make these events the best they possibly can be. After each event all “stuff” needs to be returned to Michelle’s Place and get reorganized
Attendance at Monthly Volunteer Meetings
Volunteer meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 12 pm – 1 pm.

Health Fairs

Health Fair Volunteer

Position Purpose

The Health Fair Volunteer serves as the "face of Michelle’s Place," engaging with the public to promote our services, provide literature on early detection, and share information about our support network. Volunteers must exude positive energy and genuine care when communicating with the public about Michelle’s Place.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promote Our Mission: Share the mission and vision of Michelle’s Place, emphasizing that "No One Should Face Cancer Alone."
  • Knowledgeable Representation: Maintain a good general knowledge of the services and programs we provide.
  • Effective Communication: Communicate effectively, positively, and courteously with the public.
  • Engagement: Answer general inquiries and introduce yourself to all participants at the health fair.
  • Booth Setup: Assist with setting up the booth, including arranging tables, chairs, the Michelle’s Place suitcase, and occasionally an EZ-UP canopy.
  • Booth Breakdown: Break down the booth and return materials to Michelle’s Place.

Commitment

  • Event Participation: Stay informed about upcoming monthly health fairs through email communication.
  • Meeting Attendance: Attend monthly volunteer meetings on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 12 pm – 1:30 pm.
 
 
 

Library Volunteer

Library Volunteer
Position Purpose - Provide oversight of Michelle’s Place Lending Library by keeping it organized and ensuring proper book check-out and return policies. Knowledge of Google Sheets or Excel is needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Keep a log of all books checked out and returned
● Sort books, publications and other items according to established procedure and return them to shelves or other designated storage areas.
● Process new materials.
● Maintain records of overdue materials on Google spreadsheet.
● Contact clients with overdue books via phone and by mail.
Commitment
● A weekly commitment is required; one day per week for 2 to 3 hours
● Attendance at monthly volunteer meeting is strongly encouraged.
Volunteer meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 12 pm – 1 pm.

Navigation Volunteer

Navigation Volunteer
Position Purpose
To assist Navigators in organizing all resources for all cancers. To keep up with current Master Resource List on Google Sheets (knowledge of program & computer skills required). To help organize and update printed materials.
• Verifying Master Resource information: includes verifying the information that we have is correct and complete thru a phone call or website investigation. Updating this information on a Google Sheets document. This is an ongoing process.
• Organize and Inventory all printed informational materials for English and Spanish. Categorize and create a storage system for easy access of all the resources we have for different Cancers. Work with Navigators to fill in the gaps.
• CDBG forms: sort, organize, file, and spreadsheet input
• Constant Contact - Entering email addresses
• Addressing and Mailing Bulk Mail
 
Commitment - 1 day a week, computer needs to be available, flexible schedule, & attendance at monthly Volunteer Meeting held every 3rd Thursday from 12-1

Program Manager Volunteer

Program Manager Volunteer
Position Purpose
The purpose is ensure that clients receive services in a timely manner, that all clients are treated equally but understands priorities for scheduling may arise. Assist Program Coordinator in maintaining schedule for services such as Reiki, haircuts, & LGFB.
Assist, set up and breakdown Programs Events.
Program Services
● TAP - Treatment Assistance Program
● TTAP - Treatment Travel Assistance Program
● LGFB - Look Good...Feel Better - schedule, set up and breakdown of table & chairs
● Support Groups - set up and breakdown of chairs
● Reiki - Call to set up appts with clients, make reminder calls for appts., set out sign
● Haircuts - Call to set up appts. with clients, make reminder calls, sweep or vacuum after
service
Program Events
● Party in the Park
● Thanksgiving Baskets
● PRA Christmas Party
Commitment
Program services - 1 to 3 days a month to schedule and follow up with clients
● Program events - Watch out for emails for help with set up, during and end clean up.
● After each event Items need to be reorganized back at Michelle’s Place.
● Attendance at monthly volunteers meeting

Spanish Speaking Volunteers

Spanish Speaking Volunteer
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Speak fluent Spanish/Spanglish
● Confirm and update EPM support group list to see if they still want to receive an invitation
● Notecard campaign to all of our clients to remind them of our services
● EPM support group set up and break down every third Tuesday of the Month
● Annual Retreat - Help set up, help with programs throughout day and break down of retreat.
● Attendance at monthly volunteers meeting is strongly encouraged. Volunteer meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 12 pm – 1 pm.
