Gippsland Lakes Complete Health is a leading health and support service provider in the East Gippsland region.  We deliver a broad range of services to help our clients and community to live well. 

We rely on our dedicated and compassionate volunteers to assist with many aspects of our operations (see below for current volunteering opportunities). 

You can volunteer as much or as little time as you want, whatever suits you!  We'd love you to help us make a difference in the lives of others in our community.

To volunteer at GLCH you must:

  • Be aged 18 years or over
  • Have a current driver's licence (depending on role)
  • Be willing to complete a police check and any other screening requirements required for the role you choose. (We will help arrange and pay for these checks)
  • Keep a well maintained and clean vehicle if transporting clients and/or meals
  • Adhere to our mission and values, code of conduct and other relevant policies and procedures
  • Undertake an induction and any relevant training required for your role
  • Have a willing and enthusiastic attitude

Volunteer Opportunities

Meals on Wheels

Volunteers deliver meals to the homes of community members who are unable to prepare healthy and nutritious food due to age, health or disability.

This service not only provides community members who are nutritionally at risk with access to a balanced diet, but it also offers personal interaction for those who are socially isolated.

The service operates Monday to Friday for the townships of Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance and Paynesville. Volunteers are required to be available between approximately 11:15am and 1pm. 

Responsibilities

  • Check the number of meals packed correspond with run sheet totals before commencing run
  • Ensure that the correct type of meal is delivered to the specified client as per run sheet
  • Abide by the health and hygiene requirements outlined in the Safe Food Australia booklet
  • Report any concerns or problems with clients, incidents and accidents, to the volunteer coordinator and complete the required paperwork
  • Abide by GLCH Volunteer Policy
  • Maintain a professional manner at all times and treat everyone you meet with sensitivity, dignity and respect
  • Advise volunteer coordinator asap if unable to fill a shift as per roster.

What we're looking for:

  • Be able to read run sheets and maps
  • Have own car and maintain it in a clean and tidy manner
  • Be physically fit as manual handling is a component of this role
  • The ability to work with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds
  • Good interpersonal skills and a friendly manner
  • Respect for all people and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Be available to work between 11.00 and approximately 1.00pm, Monday to Friday and to be punctual
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and display flexibility.

Remuneration

  • $5 voucher per run.

Time Commitment

No more than 1-2 hours a day in consultation with volunteer coordinator

Social Support - Lakes Entrance

Our Social Support program runs a range of innovative social group sessions in our fully equipped Day Centre in Lakes Entrance.

Life skills, craft, light exercise, reminiscing, cooking, gardening and many other interests and hobbies are supported by our social support staff and volunteers. In addition to regular daily social groups, our clients are also offered a variety of specialised interest sessions, support groups, informative wellness focused functions and cafe style socialisation. 

Offsite outings, walks and exercise in the community and visits to local establishments are regularly scheduled, along with monthly guest speakers and musical experiences.

Our volunteers can assist our staff with the delivery of sessions in a variety of ways, including set up of activities, cooking with clients in our Social Support kitchen, chatting and interacting with clients, supporting clients on outings, and serving coffee/tea and snacks or meals.

Requirements:

  • Police Check (3 yearly) – GLCH will support you to obtain this.
  • Induction with Volunteer Engagement Officer - (approximately 30 minutes)

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

Our ‘green thumb’ volunteers help sustain the vegetable patches we use and need to deliver our cooking/gardening programs in local primary schools and early childhood settings. The produce is harvested and made into healthy food for the children to try.

Maintaining these vegetable gardens and sensory gardens is a great opportunity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of the next generation, while also reaping the therapeutic benefits of gardening.

Our programs are currently available in Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, Paynesville and Orbost.

Requirements:

  • Police Check (3 yearly) – GLCH will support you to obtain this.
  • Current Working with Children, Card  -  GLCH will support you to obtain this.
  • Induction with Volunteer Engagement Officer - (approximately 30 minutes)

Children's Centre - Lakes Entrance

Children's Centre - Lakes Entrance.

Volunteers at our Children's Centre work closely with our educators to provide a full day of fun and learning for each and every child.

Supporting our educators you will be interacting with babies, toddlers, and children participating in 3- and 4-year-old Kinder.

We will need you to be able to follow instructions from our educators to set up activities, be involved in the "Nature Kinder Walk" or "Coastal Kinder" bus excursions and show our children the incredible experience they can have at our local nursing home (once a month) meeting the elderly clients.

Let us know what skills you have.  Woodworking, Art, Music, Cooking, all of these things can be integrated into activities for the children.  Would you like to help look after our chickens, and/or our veggie garden?   We need volunteers to immerse themselves in many ways, directed by our staff.  

Requirements:

  • Police Check (3 yearly) – GLCH will support you to obtain this.
  • Current Working with Children card.
  • Induction with Volunteer Engagement Officer - (approximately 30 minutes)

 

Social Support - Client - Bus Transport

Pick up clients from home and deliver to Allied Health at Jemmeson Street,  Lakes Entrance in the morning between 9am and 10am

And/Or

Take clients home from Allied Health in the afternoon between 1.30pm - 3pm

Cuppa Connections

Meeting people weekly/fortnightly in their homes to offer a smile, a chat and some company on a regular basis.
