Mediation/Conflict Resolution

 
 
What is Mediation?
  • An opportunity to discuss your case and resolve it without a public trial. A trained mediator will help all parties try to reach a fair settlement agreement.
 
Who are the Mediators?
  • Community Action Partnership’s Mediators are volunteers who are trained and certified in conflict resolution and mediation.
 
What do the Mediators do?
  • Mediators ask questions about your case and what is important to you; help everyone understand the strengths and weaknesses of their case; and record an agreement that is fair to both parties.
  • Mediators do not give legal advice.
  • Mediators do not decide who wins/loses the case.

What Is Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)?

  • The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) provides FREE tax preparation that helps filers access the tax credits & refunds they are entitled to. There are FREE VITA sites throughout Riverside County. Sites are staffed by volunteers representing Community Action Partnership of Riverside County.

Who Benefits From VITA?

  • Taxpayers who file 1040, 1040A, & 1040EZ - Low to Moderate income families - Persons with disabilities - Limited English speaking taxpayers - Senior Citizens.

How Do We Help The Community?

  • Information about FREE tax preparation services & the Earned Income Tax Credit is provided to the community by collaborative partners connecting eligible families with additional support services.

Commission

Purpose of the Community Action Commission

In accordance with Riverside County Board of Supervisor’s Policy A-21, Advisory Boards, Commissions and Committees, the Community Action Commission (CAC) advises the Riverside County Board of Supervisors consistent with the Delineation of Powers Agreement between Governing Board and the Community Action Commission. The primary purpose of the CAC is to provide guidance to the Board on anti-poverty programming, funding and to amplify the needs of low-income communities and residents.

 Commission Structure

The CAC is a tripartite board composed of a minimum of fifteen (15) members representing three sectors: one-third (1/3) shall represent the Public Sector; one third (1/3) shall be low-income individuals or shall be representatives of the low-income community; and one third (1/3) shall represent the Private Sector as members of business, industry, labor, religious, education or other major group and interests in the community served. All members shall represent a Riverside County supervisorial district and shall be formally appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
