Hero's Driver
Many Hero’s Bridge Veterans can no longer drive themselves to doctor appointments, the grocery store, run simple errands, or to see friends and/or loved ones. And many of them have no one else to drive them. These Heroes need rides to get the healthcare they need, food and supplies for daily self-care, or to socialize with other Veterans at our monthly socials and excursions. Some only need help getting around locally a few times a month, some need help getting to the VA in West Virginia once a month, and some need regularly scheduled rides to dialysis on a weekly basis. Hero Drivers transport Veterans in their own cars, transport groups of Veterans to excursions in the Hero’s Bridge van or drive the wheelchair van to provide equal access for the disabled. Hero Drivers needs are posted within Better Impact or sometime within a self-contained communication system called Workplace, by email or phone. Hero Drivers choose based on their own availability if they would like to adopt Veterans to transport on a regular or one-time only basis, and briefly document Veteran interactions and time & mileage within Better Impact and workplace.
Training and ongoing support provided.
