Office Volunteer Job Description

Goals of Position 

As an Office Volunteer, you’ll help ensure Hero’s Bridge runs smoothly behind the scenes. From thoughtful gestures like sending birthday cards to meaningful work like connecting veterans with vital services, your support directly enhances the impact we make in veterans’ lives.

Office Volunteers are the quiet champions of our mission. Past volunteers have helped us stay connected with hundreds of veterans and supporters through timely mailings, phone calls, and resource coordination. Their support ensures that no detail is missed in our mission to honor aging veterans.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and send birthday cards, Veteran Welcome packets, and donor mailings

  • Make friendly reminder or follow-up phone calls to veterans and supporters

  • Research local and state veteran resources

  • Greet and assist veterans during office visits

  • Assist with filing, data entry, and general office organization

  • Provide light administrative support to staff

  • Log hours and mileage in MyImpact 

Time Requirements

• Time: 2–6 hours per week (flexible scheduling available)
• Frequency: bi-weekly, or as available
• Duration: Ongoing or based on volunteer availability

Location

Hero’s Bridge Office – Located in Warrenton, VA
(In-person role; some research or calls may be done remotely with approval)

Work Environment

  • Office setting with access to computers, phones, and all necessary materials

  • Volunteers should be comfortable sitting, typing, and making occasional calls

  • Friendly and team-oriented environment

  • Light lifting (under 10 lbs.) may be required.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential:
• Dependable and organized
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Basic computer knowledge (email, web searches)

Desirable:
• Comfortable speaking on the phone
• Interest in working with or supporting veterans
• Familiarity with administrative tasks or office environments

No prior military experience is required 

Orientation & Training

All volunteers must complete an orientation through MyImpact and pass a background check. Ongoing support, check-ins, and optional training sessions are provided to encourage volunteer growth and confidence.

Supervision

This position reports to the Battle Buddy and Volunteer Coordinator.
