Goals of Position:
Friendly Callers play a vital role in combating isolation and supporting the mental wellness of veterans through compassionate outreach. By offering a listening ear, they provide emotional support, companionship, and a powerful reminder that someone cares.
Friendly Callers have made meaningful connections that brighten lives and ease loneliness. By being a consistent, caring presence, they help veterans feel seen, valued, and supported one conversation at a time.
Each call is unique, some may last just a couple of minutes, while others turn into rich, heartfelt conversations about anything and everything. No matter the length, every call matters and contributes to building a stronger, more connected community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Make friendly, non-clinical check-in calls to assigned veteran
• Log call details and any significant information using MyImpact
• Provide emotional support and active listening during calls
• Refer callers to Battle Buddy and Volunteer Coordinator for any unmet needs in the veterans life.
Time Requirements:
• 2–4 hours per month
• Minimum 6 month commitment preferred
• Flexible scheduling available – day, evening, and weekend shifts
Location:
• Remote – calls are made from your home
• Reliable phone and/or internet connection required
Work Environment:
• Quiet and private home workspace
• No physical demands beyond sitting and speaking
Skills & Qualifications:
• Basic Skills: Dependable, organized, and able to follow instructions
• People Skills: Friendly, empathetic, respectful communicator
• Technical Skills: Basic computer literacy and comfort using MyImpact (training provided)
No prior military experience is required – just a big heart and a willingness to listen.
Orientation & Training:
All volunteers are required to complete an orientation session through MyImpact before beginning their role, along with a background check. Ongoing support and continuing education opportunities will be available throughout the year to foster volunteer growth, confidence, and engagement.
Supervision:
Volunteers report to the Battle Buddy and Volunteer Coordinator
