Goals of Position
As part of the Social Connection Team, you (or your group) will play a meaningful role in a growing, nationwide effort to reduce isolation and foster authentic human connection. By offering light refreshments and organizing a simple, engaging activity, you will help create a warm and welcoming atmosphere where veterans can relax, connect, and feel a sense of belonging.
Your effort helps bring people together, build friendships, and create lasting memories. From fun games and inspiring speakers to thoughtful conversations and great snacks, Social Connection Team members help spark moments of joy, laughter, and meaningful connection wherever the gathering takes place.
Duties and Responsibilities

Provide light snacks and drinks for the social

Plan and lead a simple activity (e.g. game, guest speaker, trivia)

Coordinate with the Volunteer Coordinator for any needs or questions

Arrive early to ensure a smooth setup and warm welcoming environment

Stay after to clean up and ensure the space is left tidy
Time Expectation
Social Connection Team gatherings are encouraged to take place monthly and typically last about two hours. Participants are asked to arrive a little early to assist with setup and help create a warm, welcoming environment. Whether you take part once or choose to be involved regularly, your presence and effort make a meaningful impact.
Work Environment
You’ll be in a welcoming, comfortable setting. No special tools are required. Just a bit of planning and a friendly, welcoming spirit.

• Enjoy planning or hosting social gatherings
• Friendly and dependable
• Creative or resourceful in choosing fun, inclusive activities
No prior military experience is required – just a big heart
Orientation & Training
At least one member of the Social Connection Team must complete orientation before getting started. Volunteer orientation is completed online through MyImpact, along with a background check. Ongoing training and continuing education opportunities will be offered throughout the year to support continued growth and engagement. Once orientation is completed, you’ll receive a sample list of appropriate snacks and activity ideas to help with planning.
Supervision
Reports to the Battle Buddy and Volunteer Coordinator.
