Welcome to Volunteer Services for Jim Pattison Children Hospital (JPCH) and Royal University Hospital (RUH).
Within RUH & JPCH we provide volunteer opportunities that join forces with different units throughout the hospitals. These opportunities consist of assisting patients, their families and the hospital staff. We thank you for your interest in volunteering within RUH & JPCH. All applications must include the name of the opportunity being applied for.

Volunteer Opportunities
Saskatoon - Meals on Wheels
Please note: Volunteers will need their own personal vehicle and a valid drivers license.
Various routes available. Shift times are Monday - Friday delivered over the lunch hours (11:00-1:00)
Meals on Wheels Volunteers deliver nutritious meals to clients assessed as needing support with nutrition.
What you will gain:
Personal accomplishment, develop and enhance communication skills, learn new job skills & obtain a work routine, being involved & giving back to community.
Volunteers pick up meals at given time from the outlet and delivers to client in their home. We are asking for a minimum of 1 shift a week for up to 6 months.
Gift Shop Volunteer

Recruitment for All Shifts
Gift Shop Volunteers contribute to a facility’s healing culture and provide a service to patients, staff and the public in order to raise funds to purchase equipment.
Volunteers greet and welcome visitors to the Gift Shop, assist with sales, light cleaning duties, and other tasks as required.
Qualifications:
- Provide remarkable customer service to visitors and staff.
- Possesses excellent communication skills.
- Receptive and accepting of diverse population.
- Sensitive to the needs of all.
- Sensitive to cultural and financial differences and age ranges of visitors.
- Must observe confidentiality of patients.
- Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with visitors and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines as well as hospital and department policies.

RUH - Royal Express Volunteer
The Royal Express Associate assists in welcoming and transporting patients, families and visitors with limited mobility, via the Royal Express, to various areas of the hospital. Individuals with varying levels of mobility benefit from the Royal Express Service as it helps them to navigate the vast footprint of RUH.
Open shifts are:
- Monday 7:30am - 10:30am
- Friday 7:30am - 10:30am

Dube Centre for Mental Health - Hospitality Volunteer
Volunteers help reduce confusion and anxiety for patients, clients and family members by assisting in wayfinding to appropriate locations within the hospital. They push wheelchairs, walk with or provide an arm assist to clients and patients.
Dube Centre for Mental Health - Recreation Volunteer
Volunteers share their time & efforts to support staff by providing distraction, emotional support & direction to their patients. The Volunteer supplies that extra pair of “helping hands” that add to the trained services of the Acute Care facility staff, working together to enhance the patients experience during hospitalization.
In the art studio, therapeutic kitchen, reflection room, Ellis Hall gymnasium, multipurpose room (D1010). Volunteers may be on-unit depending on their position and the program. Associate volunteer positions are relational in nature and provide value added care for clients and patients through meaningful engagement and service. The volunteer will work closely with the recreation staff in the Adult and Adolescent Mental Health Units.

RUH - Pet Visitation Volunteer (Must have a St. John Ambulance Certified Therapy Dog)
Must have a pet and be certified through St. John Ambulance
The goals of pet visitation programs are to provide opportunities for patients to reach and maintain their optimal level of physical and mental functioning; to maintain or re-establish interests, social contacts and dignity, to alleviate anxiety and redirect attention from their own condition and try to provide an outlet for emotion; and to provide structured, meaningful daily activity. All dogs are to be certified, and temperament tested by a Certified Pet Dog Trainer or by St. John Ambulance. They will be placed in areas according to their certification level. Vaccinations are to be up to date prior to first animal visit. Handlers must complete all required SHA Registered Volunteer processes
