Dogs - Breeder Home
[in home dog care]
Breeder homes house a female dog who will be having puppies, and help with the rearing of the litter of puppies she has.
- Puppy gestation is around two months, and pups are in the home for 5 to 8 weeks once born.
- Ideally, these homes are:
- comfortable with volunteers in their home (we have teams of volunteers to help with the work!),
- have easy access from the space where the litter would be to the outside, and
- are able to keep the dam for her breeding career (typically four litters so 3-4 years).
- If you are ready to get started, apply on our website at eenp.org/volunteer/brood-caregivers. Selecting this interest will let us know we can get in touch with you to talk more about the opportunity.
There are a few extra steps to get ready to care for an EENP dog in your home:
- You’ll need to fill out an extra agreement (Canine Volunteer Agreement).
- You’ll need to learn our expectations around Canine Care and Safety (CC&S) and pass a quiz every four months.
- You can care for EENP dogs even if you have other adult dogs in your home, after they have been approved by EENP – our goal is to be sure your pup is happy with our pups in the home! Ask for a pet dog assessment.
