Dogs - Litter Care
[dog care outside your home]
Whenever EENP has a litter on the ground, we put together a Litter Care Team to assist the Brood Caregiver with puppy watching, cleaning, and enrichment activities for 5-8 weeks until the puppies are old enough to go to their Young Puppy Trainers.
The team meets weekly by Zoom to go over the puppies needs for each week.
Shift length: Shifts between 1-3 hours, ideal if volunteers can do more than one shift per week.
Shift times: Shifts happen throughout the day and week so shifts are available outside work/school hours.
Location: Shifts are at the litter home, not at EENP.
Children are welcome to volunteer if they can help with chores responsibly. All children should do first shifts with a family member participating and only move to solo shifts after approval from the litter care manager (which may require multiple shifts of observation). It's important to remember that our primary focus is to meet the pups' needs so if children will have difficulty prioritizing pups' needs over their own interests then it might not be a good fit yet.
