Program Support - Work Release Transport or Supervisor
Work release supervisors are volunteers who help with supervision of incarcerated employees while they are working for EENP outside of prison. Generally EENP staff are responsible for supervising these employees but there are specific situations where we need volunteers to provide coverage we cannot. These situations include when multiple staff members are on vacation or out of the office; early or late shifts when other EENP staff members are not in the office; and off-site field trips (when allowed by the prison).
Volunteers can participate in the activity while supervising or do their own work. In this position, "supervision" typically means being in the general area and being aware of what activities are happening. When off-site, supervision should be closer than is needed when at the EENP facility.
- Volunteers in this position must be extremely responsible and able to attend to details.
- Volunteers must make a commitment of at least six months (preferably a year) to the position.
- Our work release employees are generally very responsible but it is critical that anyone volunteering in this position must pay attention to their surroundings and be willing to intervene or ask questions if they see something happening that is questionable or outside guidelines. We would never put a volunteer in a position we felt could pose danger to anyone; awareness is more about noticing when rules (including minor rules) are being skirted or violated.
- EENP provides guidelines and training in addition to required training by the prisons.
- Volunteers must agree to a background check and be approved by the prisons. Volunteers who are currently under supervision by the state (including for a DUI or similar infraction) or less than a year off supervision will generally not be approved.
