The Military Museums
Volunteer Roles
Atrium Host – Welcome visitors, provide a general overview of the galleries, and answer initial questions.
Gallery Host – Serve as the first point of contact in one of the museum galleries and engage visitors about Canada’s military history. Galleries may include the Army Museum of Alberta, Air Force Museum of Alberta, Naval Museum of Alberta, Cold War Exhibit, and regimental museums.
Collections & Archives Volunteer – Assist museum and gallery managers and curators with processing collections and archival materials, researching artefacts, cataloguing items, and supporting collections projects.
Events Volunteer – Support one-time and recurring events, including lectures, dinners, seasonal programs, and special exhibitions. Tasks may include greeting visitors, reception and bar duties, setup, and cleanup.
Gift Shop Volunteer – Assist with all aspects of the museum gift shop, including sales, merchandising, and providing a welcoming experience for shoppers.
Schedule
Atrium Host, Gallery Host, Gift Shop Volunteer: Weekly or bi-weekly shifts, Monday–Sunday, 10:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. and/or 1:30 p.m.–5:00 p.m.
Collections & Archives Volunteer: Flexible schedule
Events Volunteer: Schedule varies depending on the event
Position Requirements
Must be 16 years of age or older
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Comfortable engaging with the public
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team
A passion for history and the stories behind it
Ability to work independently and take initiative
A Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check
The Military Museums (TMM) is a Canadian Armed Forces tri-service history, heritage, art, research, and educational institution.
The Military Museums is dedicated to preserving the memories and traditions of the countless Canadians who proudly served their country through numerous wars and conflicts by their selfless dedication, commitment and courage.
