Volunteering with Sustainable HB

Welcome to our Volunteer hub!

Sustainable HB, formerly known as the Environment Centre Hawke's Bay, is a registered charity and has been in the community for more than 30 years. Sustainable HB works across Napier, Hastings, Wairoa and Central Hawke's Bay. The key focus of the organisation is educating and supporting others to build resilient communities, environmental restoration, climate change adaption and mitigation, advocating for systems change and now climate disaster response.

Our volunteers play a huge role in helping us achieve these goals and are an integral part of the Sustainable HB team. Take a look around and if you see something that interests you, fill in an online application form.

We'd love to have you join us!

Volunteering with Sustainable HB

Community food initiatives

Some of our volunteers run food initiatives such as plant-based potluck dinners. If you are interested in supporting our plant-based initiatives, please get in touch.

Customer service roles

Customer service volunteers are rostered in our shop front to support our customers with their recycling.

Education

Our community educators teach Tamariki how to support local freshwater habitats. If you have experience working with children and you would like to support this service, fill out an application form.

Biodiversity

Our Biodiversity team are keen to have volunteers support water quality monitoring, assessment of fish passage barriers, and planting of wetlands and/or native planting regeneration.

Sustainable HB Events

When events are happening, we need volunteers! This may include administration, parking wardens, planting, organizing equipment, providing information or education and waste reduction roles. Let us know your area of passion and expertise.

Waste Minimization

Volunteers are needed at ‘one off’ events to support the public to place their rubbish into bins for recycling. These events can be concerts, markets or other specific local events.
