The Salvation Army of Galveston County

We have two great locations in Galveston County and many opportunities to help you serve your neighbors in need.

On Galveston Island, The Center of Hope located at 601 51st. Street houses an emergency overnight shelter and a Family Store. The shelter offers men, women and families a safe, clean place to spend the night and get a hot meal. A caseworker is available to assist with resources to help those who are willing to escape from homelessness. In the meantime, The Salvation Army meets their basic needs until they can get on their feet. Everyday at 5:00, a meal is served for the entire community and volunteers assist in that effort. Volunteers can also assist in the kitchen and the food pantry. In the Family Store, volunteers assist in sorting and preparing donations for sale. Money raised in the Family Store supports the programs of The Salvation Army of Galveston County.

In Texas City, The Moody Family Center for Worship and Service is located at 4801 E F Lowry Expressway. This location offers a Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club and rent and utility assistance to the community. A public drive-thru food distribution is offered on the third Tuesday of the month from 9:00am until 11:00am.  Volunteer opportunities and requirements for this location will be defined and posted soon.

General Interests

Bell Ringing (November- December)

The bell ringing season starts each November and runs through Christmas Eve, when the red kettles are packed away for the season. Volunteers are the difference between an empty kettle and one that raises about $30 per hour – enough to provide a family with two bags of groceries or shelter an individual for a night.

What does it mean to be a volunteer Bell-Ringer?
