Tween Tabletop Role-Playing Games (TTRPG) Program Assistant

Location: Penrose Library
Schedule: 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month, 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. (Starting in January 2027)
Age Requirement: 21+

About the Role:

Do you enjoy imagination, games, and helping kids have fun? We’re looking for a friendly and dependable volunteer to Co-Lead a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) program for tweens at the library. This program plays DnD as well as other role playing games, so experience as a DM or leading TTRPG is necessary.  You will co-lead this program with another person and support library staff to help participants create characters, understand gameplay, and enjoy a collaborative storytelling experience in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Qualifications:
• Enjoy working with children ages 9–12, especially those new to TTRPG
• Familiarity with tabletop role-playing games (such as Dungeons & Dragons) and experience as a DM or Game Master.

• Ability to explain rules or concepts in a clear, age-appropriate way- This is often the first experience the tweens have with any type of TTRPG.

• Patient, friendly, and supportive demeanor
• Ability to follow library policies and staff direction
• Dependable and punctual

Time Commitment:

• Program is held the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month, 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. - Starts in January 2027

• Volunteers are asked to arrive 15 minutes early for setup and stay briefly after for cleanup

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist library staff with program setup and cleanup
• Welcome participants and help them get settled
• Support gameplay by helping tweens understand basic rules, characters, and materials
• Encourage cooperation, creativity, and respectful behavior
• Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive environment
• Communicate any concerns or issues to library staff during the program 

Support Provided:

• Library staff will manage registration, attendance, and logistics.
• Game materials and supplies provided.
• Ongoing communication and support from the tween services librarian.

• Ability to explain rules or concepts in a clear, age-appropriate way- This is often the first experience the teens have with any type of TTRPG.

• Patient, friendly, and supportive demeanor
• Ability to follow library policies and staff direction
• Dependable and punctual

Adult Education Facilitator - Speak English Group

Location: Sand Creek Library
Schedule: Tuesday evenings 5:00 – 6:45 p.m.

Age Requirement: 21+

About the Role:

We are seeking enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers to lead informal English conversation groups. As a Speak English Facilitator, you will facilitate engaging and supportive sessions that help English Acquisition Learners improve their speaking skills and build confidence. This role is essential in creating a welcoming environment where learners from diverse backgrounds can practice English in a relaxed and friendly setting. Training will be provided. 

Duties and Qualifications:

• Plan and facilitate weekly or bi-weekly conversation group sessions, ensuring they are engaging and interactive. (Training provided)
• Create a supportive and inclusive environment where all participants feel comfortable speaking.
• Encourage participation from all group members, ensuring everyone has an opportunity to speak.
• Use a variety of topics and activities to stimulate conversation and practice different aspects of spoken English.
• Provide constructive feedback to participants to help them improve their speaking skills.
• Attend volunteer orientation and volunteer training sessions as required
• Keep attendance records and provide feedback to the Adult Education Manager on the progress of the group.
• Communicate any challenges or needs to the Adult Education Manager promptly
• Kindly communicate with library staff
• Report time spent volunteering in Better Impact, PPLD’s volunteer management system
• Ability to follow library policies and staff direction

Time Commitment:

• Program is held every Tuesday, 5:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. 
• Volunteers are asked to arrive 15 minutes early for setup and stay briefly after for cleanup
• Volunteers are expected to prepare for and facilitate one session per week and should expect to spend ~5 hours per session (about 2.5 hours per week in group and 1-2 hours planning at home)
• 6-month commitment to ensure consistency in the student experience.

• Strong command of the English language. 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping others.
• Ability to lead and manage group dynamics effectively.
• Cultural sensitivity and an understanding of the challenges faced by language learners.
• Previous teaching, tutoring or facilitation experience 
• Experience working with English Acquisition Learners

If you answered yes to any of these questions, have other ways to help reuse/recycle broken items, and are available the second Thursday of each month 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. you can help your local community by becoming a Repair Trainer! 

PPLD's Repair Café is a neighborhood initiative that promotes repair as an alternative to tossing things out. At a Repair Café you’ll find the tools and materials needed to repair your broken items, as well as knowledgeable volunteers who will show you how to do it. Repair Trainers will offer a diagnosis and suggested remedy for broken items, repairing items when possible and otherwise explaining what parts you may need to obtain to complete the repair. The Repair Café exists to show how much fun repairing things can be, and how easy it often is. Why don’t you give it a go?

STARTING IN 2026, REPAIR CAFE WILL ALSO ALTERNATE BETWEEN PENROSE LIBRARY AND RUTH HOLLEY LIBRARY ON THE 4TH THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH.
