Emergency Department Volunteers
Are you our next extraordinary human?
Our Emergency Department assisted with over 77,000 presentations in the financial year to 30 June 2024. It is a fast paced and at times stressful environment but one where you can really make a difference!
Volunteers have recently commenced within the Emergency Department, and we are now looking to expand the program.
The opportunity:
-
Volunteers will directly engage with consumers offering support to patients, their families and carers as they are triaged through the ED, helping to alleviate nerves and worry during an uncertain time for many patients.
-
Offering personalised companionship via emotional support during a family's time of need.
-
Your day may include providing recreational engagement such as crafts and games to assist families with young children - not necessarily the patient attending the ED but siblings too!
-
You may read the paper to elderly patients or demonstrate your skills in sudoku or crosswords to help pass the time and often the anxious wait.
-
Your time will be spent across both the Children's Emergency Department and the general Adult Emergency Department as required and/or directed by frontline staff.
We Currently have the following volunteer Shifts available:
About you:
-
Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment?
-
Are you wishing to use your compassion and empathy in a rewarding role directly supporting visitors to the Emergency Department during their time of need?
-
Do you remain calm under pressure while offering a nurturing persona?
-
Can you commit to 1x3hr shift per week for a minimum 12-months? (AM shift - 9:30am-12:30pm or PM shift - 12pm-3pm, Mon-Fri).
-
Barwon Health volunteers are a valued part of our unpaid workforce, as such, training and onboarding is thorough and on par with paid positions. Are you willing to undergo our detailed induction, training and immunisation process? (Full details vary between positions and will be discussed with you upon receipt of your application).
What next?
-
Ready to join our team of amazing people?
-
Ready to be part of a rewarding and exciting volunteer opportunity, directly impacting our community?
-
Then we want to hear from you!
Following interview successful applicants are offered a full suite of training including mandatory modules to support all new volunteers plus additional training and buddy shifts tailored to individual roles.
