Since 1849, Barwon Health has embraced and recognised volunteers as a vital part of our health service. Volunteersing at Barwon Health takes several forms, each as important and valued as the other.
Barwon Health Volunteer Services
Volunteering offers an opportunity to help others and make new friendships. The Geelong region is home to great diversity, and we want people representing our community to join us. We welcome volunteers over the age of 18 from all abilites, beliefs and culutrally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
All our volunteer opportunites have a common theme - our programs focus on how we can add to patient/consumer care. We support consumers and their families through roles that offer social, emotional and recreational support.
Consumer Partners
Barwon Health supports people’s rights to participate individually and collectively in the planning and implementation of their health care. Partnering with consumers is an important strategy to improve patient care, as consumers have first-hand experience of health services. Barwon Health does this by partnering with Consumer Partners.
A Consumer Partner is a person who voices lived experiences perspectives and takes part in decision-making as a representative of the community. Consumer Partners are well-connected in their community and can access the perspectives of many people.
They are actively involved in the development, planning and quality improvement of service, and the measure and improvement of patient and family experience. Opportunities range from sitting on Board and National Standards committees, to varying levels of participation on specific project steering committees and working groups.
Barwon Health Foundation
The Barwon Health Foundation aims to create happier, healthier lives by investing in the life-saving and life-changing work of Barwon Health. Our Foundation has a unique partnership with you, our community. There are many event and regular volunteering opportunites available such as local sausage sizzles and event support to inner-hospital volunteering with the Foundation Gift Shop.
