Volunteer Opportunity in Aged Care Services

Love a good chat or sharing a hobby? Meet new people, learn new things, and brighten someone's day - Volunteer at one of Barwon Health’s Aged Care facilities.

At Barwon Health, we are proud to provide a comprehensive Residential Aged Care program that values, respects, and promotes the individuality of every resident. BH Aged Care approach is centred around supporting wellbeing, maintaining independence, and creating meaningful connections within a caring and inclusive community.

Our Residential Aged Care services are located across three sites:

  • Alan David Lodge – Charlemont
  • Wallace Lodge – McKellar Centre, North Geelong
  • Blakiston Lodge – McKellar Centre, North Geelong

Our facilities provide a range of residential care services, including high and low care, aged persons’ mental health, dementia-specific care, and respite care.

About the Volunteer Role

We are seeking compassionate and friendly volunteers who would like to make a positive difference in the lives of our residents and their families.

Aged Care Volunteers provide social, emotional, and recreational support to residents by helping create opportunities for connection, engagement, and enjoyment.

Volunteer activities may include:

  • Spending time with residents on a one-on-one basis through conversation and companionship
  • Supporting residents to maintain social connections and reduce feelings of isolation
  • Assisting with group activities such as:
    • Arts and crafts
    • Men’s Shed activities
    • Gardening
    • Playing music or singing
    • Games and social activities
  • Supporting lifestyle programs and recreational activities based on residents’ interests and needs
  • Providing a welcoming presence for residents and their families

Each residential area has its own task-specific volunteer role description, and volunteers are matched to activities that best suit the needs of residents and the service.
