Are you a friendly, down-to-earth person who enjoys a chat and loves helping someone stay confident and independent? We’re looking for a volunteer who can offer light practical support and companionship to a client needing an occasional helping hand with some simple tasks such as a pushing a supermarket trolley when client is in power wheelchair and helping unloading shopping from car to home.

As part of our Everyday Living Program, the Volunteer Practical Support Companion role provides simple, practical assistance to help clients remain confident and independent in their daily routines. The focus is on offering support with them, not doing things for them - respecting their autonomy while providing a little extra help where needed.

This opportunity is based in Burleigh, Gold Coast and will require someone flexible to volunteer with the client as and when required, rather than at a set day/time every week.

As the Volunteer Practical Assistance Companion you will be:

• Assist with bringing groceries from the car up to client’s home via the elevator.
• When out shopping, push the trolley if client is using his small power wheelchair.
• Support with small, simple household tasks such as changing the occasional light bulb or other ad hoc practical jobs.
• Provide friendly conversation and company while completing tasks together.

• An outgoing, down-to-earth, cheerful person who enjoys a friendly chat.
• Respectful of people’s independence and understands the importance of empowering - not taking over.
• Comfortable offering light physical assistance and is happy to work alongside clients at their pace.
• Reliable and willing to lend a hand wherever needed
• Passion for helping others and making a difference
• Current holder of or willing to apply for NDIS WSC (Yellow card)
