Can Collector - DUNBLANE AREA

ROLE DETAILS

Location: DUNBLANE area

Responsible To: Fundraising Administrator

Department: Fundraising

Hours: As required

ROLE PURPOSE AND KEY DUTIES

The Hospice has Collecting Cans located at various shops/businesses throughout Forth Valley and North Lanarkshire and a Can Collector is primarily responsible for delivering/collecting full Cans within an assigned area. In assigning an area, the Hospice will try to match a list of Can locations as near as possible to a Can Collector’s home.

All appointed Can Collectors are provided with photo ID to allow them to collect/distribute Hospice Cans which must be worn at all times when delivering/collecting Cans. (Appointed Can Collectors will need to provide colour passport-sized photograph/or a digital photo to the Hospice for an ID badge)

To start the role, the Hospice will provide empty labelled cans showing the existing shop/businesses names and the “Can” number - all Cans have a unique ID number allocated to a particular shop/business.

Key Duties: (not exhaustive)

  • confidently representing the Hospice across the local community;
  • visiting existing shops/businesses to remove any full Cans and replace with new Cans. It is anticipated that the shops/businesses will need to be visited at least every 3 months unless the shop/business has contacted the Hospice to say that a can needs replacing;
  • bringing unopened full Cans back into the Hospice for counting;
  • identifying potential shops/businesses within their area which may be suitable for a Collecting Can. Can Collectors can either approach the shop/business direct about taking a Collecting Can or refer this back to the Fundraising Team to follow up;
  • distributing materials to some of their locations for the Hospice seasonal appeals including Snowdrop (Jan/Feb) and Light Up A Life (Nov/Dec).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lifting cans when heavy;
  • May involve climbing stairs to reach fundraising office at Hospice to return full cans or get supplies.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • good inter-personal skills, cheerful disposition and the ability to communicate confidently;
  • work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
