Winter Growers 2026 - Join the Team!
Despite the cold, we’re still growing at the Brick Works!

Thank you for interest in joining the 2026 Winter Growers team! In this role, volunteers will work closely with staff in the greenhouse and in our outdoor gardens to prepare for the spring. Olivia and Alex will be supporting this program running from January 15th 2025 until April 2025.
The Winter Growers program is one that collaboratively shares knowledge and learning while preparing for the growing season ahead. The program will focus on cold sowing plants outdoors and starting plants intended for various gardens around the site, in the greenhouse. This group of volunteers are integral in contributing to our preparedness for Garden Circle and helping bring the site to life after the winter months!
🌱 What you bring to the Winter Growers team:
- You’re passionate about growing healthy plants and food through a variety of mediums
- You work well both independently and within a group
- You don’t mind getting a little dirty or working for periods of time in the cold
- You have some previous gardening experience
- Complimentary skills such as: carpentry/building, water harvesting/management, artistic abilities and experience upcycling materials are an asset.
📍Where: Evergreen Brick Works located at 550 Bayview Ave in Toronto's Don Valley. This year Winter Growers will be taking place primarily in the heated greenhouse within the Children’s Garden.
📆 Shift Schedule: Shifts are scheduled to start on Thursday January 15th from 1:00pm –3:00pm.
PLEASE NOTE: We are only able to accept a maximum of 10 volunteers for each shift. Please ONLY sign up for shifts if you are confident you can attend and participate. You can also cancel shifts you've signed up for in the "Schedule" tab of your volunteer profile. By doing so, you will space for fellow volunteers to join. Thank You!
🌟 Commitment: A bi-weekly commitment of 2 hour shifts each month from January until the end of April.
🔎 Good to Know: As a Winter Grower, you will assist in creating seed starting mix, cold sowing native plants, tending annual and perennial herbs and vegetables, watering, weeding and pest control. We will be responsible for cleaning up the greenhouse as well as any other space we work in.
✋ To become a Winter Growers volunteer:
- Join us for an online, optional info session on Thursday January 8th 2025 from 2:00-3:00pm. and help us kick off the winter growing season. Learn more about the program, introduce yourself to other program participants and meet the staff leads.
- You will be provided with on-the-job training at Evergreen Brick Works and receive continued support from our program staff.

Please note the info session will be online on Zoom and is optional. We highly encourage new volunteers to join, learn from staff and fellow volunteers, and connect. Returning volunteers are welcome to join too!
