Evergreen is looking to recruit a number of volunteer Data Collectors to help us implement our Places4Wellbeing tool and measure wellbeing in public spaces!
Help us understand the impact public spaces like Evergreen Brick Works has on visitors' wellbeing and health!   

In this role, Data Collectors will engage with visitors at Evergreen Brick Works and conduct surveys (using tablets, etc.) to gather feedback around the impact of our site and programming on their subjective wellbeing (SWB). This team will directly support the efforts and findings for our Measurement, Evaluation and Learning team.   
 
Tasks/Responsibilities:    

  • Collecting survey responses from members of the public at Evergreen Brick Works   
  • Approaching visitors and explaining the purpose of the survey (using a scripted introduction)  
  • Handing out incentives upon survey completion  
  • Providing a safe and engaging environment for visitors to participate   
  • Keeping track of the number of survey responses   
  • Ideally, Data Collectors will work in pairs to collect survey responses   

What you bring – You are:   

  • Committed, engaged, enthusiastic and optimistic,   
  • A team player who can work independently,  
  • Friendly and comfortable speaking with new people,  
  • Comfortable approaching and interacting with members of the public,  
  • Comfortable standing, and/or walking around the site, for extended periods of time,   
  • Possess advanced English language skills. Additional language skills are considered an asset,   
  • You are 18+.    

Where: Data Collection shifts will take place at Evergreen Brick Works (550 Bayview Avenue).   

When: Data Collection shifts will be scheduled from March through until May. The Data Collectors program will continue until the end of 2026. The team aims to gather information about several site-based programs, including the Farmers Market and other festivals.  

Shifts will be 3-4 hours in length and may take place on:   

  • Mondays between 11am-2pm 
  • Tuesdays between 11am-2pm 
  • Wednesdays between 11am-2pm 
  • Thursdays between 11am-2pm 
  • Saturdays between 9am-1pm  
  • and Sundays between 11 am – 3 pm 

Additional shifts may be added for special events. Onboarded volunteers will receive email updates when new shifts are added or when shifts are removed.  

Data Collectors will work in pairs and can sign-up for their preferred shifts and times.   

Commitment: Data Collectors are asked to commit to at least 2-3 shifts per month from March to May 2026.   
 

How we will support you: Successful applicants will be invited to attend a mandatory virtual orientation on Thursday March 12th, 2026 at 6:00-8:00pm. This orientation will include a virtual tour of relevant spaces, program overview, expectations, safety protocols, and other helpful information about the role. Volunteers will receive ongoing support, communications, and direction from the Measurement, Evaluation and Learning team and other key staff.  
 

Perks: This is a great role for someone looking to build experience in research and data collection and gain connections in the environmental non-profit sector. Volunteers will be given comprehensive training and coaching on research methodologies. Your contributions will directly contribute to Evergreen’s Subjective Wellbeing initiatives. A volunteer certificate of completion and reference letter can be made upon request.   

Volunteers who’ve logged 20+ hours in the calendar year will also receive a 15% discount card to the Evergreen Garden Market, as well as access to the Toronto Attractions Council Reciprocal Program. References are available on request.   
 

Good to know:   

  • Prospective volunteers will be contacted via phone call to learn a bit more about yourself and why you are interested in this role. If the brief phone call screening is successful, applicants will be invited to attend the orientation to complete role training. 
  • This role requires volunteers to be on site at Evergreen Brick Works. You can learn more about the many ways to travel to the Brick Works here.    
  • A number of the tasks for this role require volunteers to work outside. Please be prepared and dress appropriately for your shifts.   
  • This role requires volunteers to stand for extended periods of time. If you require an accommodation, please be sure to let us know.
